Not necessarily “wrong” just adds a neurological component to the mix. It just means there is a possibility (however small) that you could do everything perfectly and little guy is going to have trouble.

It’s like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that are prone to Syringomyelia, or a Chihuahua prone to hydrocephalus, or a dachshund prone to back problems. Certain types of animals are prone to some things more than others. There are plenty of people that own them anyway.

Are the others crested too? Just make sure they aren’t pecking each other’s heads, or yanking crests a lot. My understanding of the way the crest is formed means it is a bit of a weaker spot on the skull much like a newborn baby’s fontanelle.

I'm aware of that already and no I don't have other crested ducks that's the only one

Wal-Mart only sells chick starter in certain areas, and they get one load of it at the onset of spring and chick season. When they sell out, they are out. They do sell a small box of grit for birds, I have used it in a pinch when waiting for an online order. Tractor supply is great- if they don' have it, they offer free shipping to their store, or can just order it for you and call when it is in. Most items are in within a couple of days tops. They do have a pretty good selection of chick and bird foods where I live, but not so much for ducks. But they are always happy to order whatever I need, or help me find it elsewhere. I have had to drive really far, hours away, to get items in a bind before- but it is all part of the learning process. I hate to see any snarkiness here, it's such a great forum, I haven't ever signed up but felt I needed to jump in here just to say that, if nothing else. We should build each other up, and support one another. Take advice for what it's worth, and leave it if it isn't what you need. Unfortunately, as with so many animal maladies, we don't know what it could be until certain, sometimes many, things are ruled out first. A change in diet typically is an easy place to start- if needed, add some niacin separately from the food. The reason breed specific bird food exists is because all birds are not created equal. They need certain ratios and balances that one food may or may not contain enough of.... I agree with adding niacin, but for sure asap food for them specifically would be helpful. Even if the problem began before the food, it may not get better if it's related. A balanced diet can't hurt even if it isn't. I hope you get to the bottom of it quickly, but best to start where you can, order online if needed or call the store or go in and have them order it. For now, supplements, and research is best. Plus positivity ♡

Lol most definitely. But I was assuming Tractor Supply probably has something for waterfowl.. at least the tractor supply near where I live has quite a few waterfowl options. It just makes it easier than having to mix Extra vitamins with chick starter!
If they don't carry it, you can ask them to order it from either another store, go on their website and have it shipped to your local store for free, or order online!!!

Here's my advice. You've been given a lot of conflicting information from a lot of people. However, here on BYC, people who have been proven to have given great advice and information, and have proven that they know what they are talking about, are awarded a special badge. It's under their username and it says "BYC Educator".

Two such people have posted in here. I would take their advice.
That is good to know, for future reference myself!
