Need ideas for waterer heaters

Fred's Hens :

I use a heated dog bowl, the large size. They are somewhat economical to operate because they come when needed, below 40F and shut themselves when not needed, over 40F.

To make life simple, I just sit an ice cream pail of water into each dog bowl. I have multiple buckets. Take out fresh water and swap. Ideal in cold weather. No messing around.

Pictures? I read about this, so I would love to see pictures. Please))))))))

I'm going to try one of these this year. Some years it doesn't get too cold here but this seems to be one of the years that is going to be really nasty. Next week we are supposed to start getting freezing temps already.

I use a fish tank heater, available in many sizes for whatever size waterer you have. if you use a plastic 50gal drum or other plastic water container make sure to secure it in a mannor where it doesnt make contact with the sides. this prevents it from possibly melting through the container, low probability but has happened. galvanized containers obviously do not have this problem.

I love this idea, but would it work with young chicks (7 or 8 weeks) during their first weeks in the coop? Is it too tall for them to access and is there a risk of them getting into it? What kind of platform do you stand it on? Would a cinder block or concrete patio slab be okay? Sorry, trying to figure out the simplest way for young birds

I use the cookie tin heater but mine is a popcorn tin, so it's taller. This keeps the shavings out of the waterer. For the smaller/younger birds a brick or block is placed in front of the tin so they have a step.
