Need immediate help to save juvenile roo

I wondered about that. I've changed them to public and you should be able to see them now.

Poor fella, I am glad he is doing better. Since he is improving, you should stay optimistic and continue what you are doing. If I may, though, just a word of caution: keep a close eye on him and practice good bio-security with your other chickens. I am just gun shy, but Marek's disease can look like this. The videos you posted look how my rooster was moving for a few days before things got worse. Truly, I hope it was just the fighting and lack of nutrition that goofed Elvis up!

X2. I'm glad he's getting better, too, but beware, I have had a few with Marek's do the *exact* same thing.

Same here. My heart sunk when I saw the videos because it is exactly the uncoordinated movements my poor Roo had.

I'm definitely not here to bring the doom and gloom. I want for your Elvis to recover just as bad as you do! He's darn cute and quite a fellow! But just please, do be very careful until you know for sure it's not a disease. Marek's is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

There are only 2 other hens right now. They came with the property. The owner of the property did drop off 21 chicks about a month ago (some of which I think are roosters), but they are still confined as they are too young to be running around.

I have 5 Buff Orpington chicks my husband got me for Xmas but they are in their own enclosure because they still need a heat lamp.

We're in the process of building a really nice coop. It should be done by the time the buffs are old enough to be in it.

I honestly don't think it's any kind of disease but I will keep a close eye on him (he's in my living room). He was fine until he was pecked in the head by another rooster. In fact, the people we got him from called the other day to check on him and we talked about how he was before. I do think he was malnourished and dehydrated when he arrived but he was up running around and being a casanova before he got injured.

We have never vaccinated our poultry before. In 5 years of having dozens and dozens of birds we never had a sick one. 2005 was the last time I had large numbers including geese, guinea hens, turkeys, chickens and roosters. Mmm, I did have 1 rainbow lorikeet as well. We had one rooster on Kauai but there are thousands of chickens and roosters roaming loose. Hurricane Iniki blew down a chicken farm and what's running loose in the rain forests are the descendants of the birds that got loose during the storm.

Elvis is doing even better today. We took him outside for his "physical therapy" and he was actually running around. My husband had to chase him down because he was cruising! He's eating and drinking on his own.

I moved him into a bigger enclosure today. Being outside with plenty of room seems to motivate him to move around. I think he needs to move now to improve because the more he moves the better he is at it. We've got to get those neurons firing.

I put a feeder and waterer in with him and he's using them. It's still not a huge enclosure because I want to give him room gradually. That with his time outside is the best therapy I think. He's been in the "ICU" for 2 weeks now and he needs to work back up to normal. I don't want him to overexert himself and slide backwards in his progress.

I also moved him off towels and onto shavings. He's enjoying scratching through the shavings.

We tossed some scratch to him while he was outside and he did what we call the "awesome food call" - you know, the one roosters do to get the hens to come running so they can jump their bones. lol

I'll try to get video of him running around tomorrow.

If he has Marek's you are putting the rest of your flock at risk since they haven't been vaccinated for it.
