I had 2 drakes, one was just killed by a hawk, I’m getting a new duck, so the remaining duck is not alone. Should I get a duckling or an adult duck? Will an adult duck fall into place with my duck & me? I’m not sure which is best- a duckling or adult duck- my duck is my pet & I interact with him daily & put him up at night. Please help with what do as I have to do something quickly.

adult drake will be the best option. no matter what gender you get they will fight for pecking order at the beginning but two drakes will be a lot better than a drake with a hen. plus you will avoid egg issues and possible extra vet bills from all the egg issues hens can have

Will a adult duck follow the duck already here?

It might take them some time to get used to each other and become friends, but yes they will be best friends after awhile. It is very important that you get an adult duck because if you get a duckling you will have to raise it and not let it out with your other one until it is an adult.

I agree that an adult is much better. I hatch ducklings a couple times a year at the school were I teach. If I have the ducklings home for a weekend I will take them outside in a screen tent. My drakes attack the screen trying to get at the ducklings. My female ducks are just curious.
I would expect a new adult duck to join with your current duck, not necessarily follow. It will depend who ends on the top of the pecking order.

I would adopt another adult drake that needs a home. There are lots of adult drakes you there that people have to get rid of. Often if you can't get rid of an adult drake then it goes in the stew pot. You could save another ducks life. Separate them at first so they can see but not touch. Do that for a few days. Then, after that you can let them out together supervised, and just see how they do. Then, if they do good you can keep then together, if they don't then separate them for longer and check again.

Awe. I am so sorry! My only experience has beeb with integrating ducklings with teenagers and adults. It takes a while. The ducklings need to be old enough and big enough to be recognized and hold their own in the flock.
I would put them out, supervised sbd keep them separate at night. My thought is, if you want your drake to have company soon choose an adult duck and better yet a female. However I am sure there are dos and don‘ts integrating adult ducks; and I an sure there is much wisdom from others on this site.
I do know ducks can suffer emotionally without their flock so keep an eye on him.

Keep in mind if you did get a female for him, it would be a better idea to get 2 or 3 of them because 1 drake to 1 hen will generally result in the hen being over mated.
