Need opinions;just got a new silkie pullet,

Yea! that tail thing kills me! i dont know how to get em to keep it raised during pics or show or something LOL i just always puff the tail when i pet them to try to train it up LOL
yea, i wanna enter her in a show to see how she does, but i cant find any local ones.
how do you get the feet feathers to grow?
i have em on grass and shavings. but still no good lol
and when heavily dirty they get a bath to get the mud off

Feet feathers will grow when they're ready. Right now they don't look too bad. Feathering is up to the middle toe, though it could stand to be a bit more heavy. Protein helps with feather-growth, though I honestly don't bother. And I keep mine in a tight, dry coop with deep shavings. They don't have access to outside very often. Give those toesies a nice scrub and see if the feathing looks any thicker after they're dried.

The real 'local' show here is our county fair that takes place in the summer. Putting it mildly, it's not a good place to get any bird judged. I know in NY it takes a few good hours to get any good APA/ABA judge's opinion. Sigh...

to get the best feet feathering they have to live on wire. I keep show bird in indoor pens on shavings, mine that are not showing get to run around out side in pens covered with netting, silkies don't look up and see hawks. I really like your girl and I think she will really improve with age. avoid feeding her a lot of corn it turns the white feathers yellow, sun light will do the same thing. If your bird gets yellow you just have to wait for them to molt.

It looks like your pullet has better type than the fair one. That bird has poor type for a Silkie. Give your pullet a good bath & blow-dry, re-photograph her against a dark background (black fleece blanket) and then post the new pics. Then we can give you better advice/opinions. She does look nice.

Ok its me back again to bug ya'll

so thats what shes on lol sorry if they are to wrinkly to tell anything by but here i go!...
This is her angry at me, (i woke her after my night class to bath her and take pics, She really just wants to sleep LOL)

After the bath i tried to convince her to like me again, lol didnt work. she just stared at it for ten mins like "What is this! Its already been Eaten!"

And this one i noticed how tiny she is when her coats not there lol she was half her normal size! she also scared me when i started washing her feet! i stuck her in and thought i felt a Sixth toe!!!!!!!! Turns out it was just a massive clump of dirt and yuckys, she has the normal amount of toes LOL Gave mommy a heartattack LOL

and this one, Well my boyfriend isnt to happy i decided to dry the chicken on the couch while he was doing his homework, Oh well! LOL Princess here needs her throne! (Not her name lol dont have one yet lol)

Well, as said before, she's young and needs more time. So far, she looks okay. A personal pet-peeve of mine is small crests, but that's not saying much, considering that I value crest size over many other Silkie features for my own personal reasons. Just the same, it still has time to add some poof.

Otherwise, she looks pretty uniform. Blue earlobes, and decent foot feathering. Give her some time.

I would say she appears to be at least breeder quality, which is bette rthan hatchery or pet quality. Paired with a good rooster, you could get some nice babies.

Oh? so her crest is small still???....
i thought it was big compaired to many ive seen, ive even seen some with almost no crest,...
i was happy when i say my PQ's had crest, then i saw hers and i almost died....
i mean ive seen bigger in the big shows.... but i just figured since she was only 5 months itd be ok.... gosh i hope i didnt get another poor one. that would suck....
so you guys dont think she would do ok at a show?
how big should a crest be to be good quality? double her size or something?
Do the bearded ones show better? i dont think ive seen a none bearded at show?
