Hey all! So I'm outside taking a break from laboriously pounding a t post into ice mud. Gotta get a temp run up quick!

Question. I have hardware cloth for the fence but welded wire for apron is ordered and late. I reallllly hate like heck to mangle these 100ft foot rolls of HC for the apron when that's not the plan.

I have a short roll of chicken wire, think that'll do for an apron for day use? Just till there's a big thaw, or the heavier wire comes.

Thanks!

Sure, better than temporarily using the HC.

It must be a pretty darned important emergency to be pounding into frozen ground.

Had no run, saw a fox coming out of the barn Monday in broad daylight. I don't mind watching them but hey i need a coffee sometimes. About to do the apron.

Plus I get stir crazy in the winter, might as well do stuff. Heat wave here, it's 41!
Edit: Thank you!

Good mornings work. Got the top and bottom pieces connected(zipties) and added a so so apron(zipties). Didn't attach to that post yet which is PVC sitting loosely over a short t post. Need to get that post fitted down tighter before I connect things. Also need to add a top.

It worked out fine. Not sure I'd leave them out while I'm away but it'll give me some freedom to walk away. I did add a modest chicken wire apron. Have to cover with something tomorrow, hawks are around.

The supervisor quickly learned to scale the fence. His co worker was already inside sleeping in a nest box. No idea why these cats love chickens so much. They are with them every second possible, and sometimes they cry outside the coop.

we used a old truck cap and added some wood sides to raise it up works great has top on it plus windows that open in summer made doors at one end have other end right close to hen house as we can

My neighbor has some free ranging chickens that have a cat that wanders with them. One rooster and 3-4 pullets come over to my place every day. The cat sticks close to the rooster unless one of the pullets wanders off then she herds the wandering one back to the group. It's so funny to watch.

Unlikely bedfellows! Always amazing when you see these strange alliances.

Had either a fox or fishers close last night. Blood curdling sounds. I was out there screwing the screen type door shut that now needs a better latch. Since until I build a gate it can only be locked from the inside. Projects today!
