Maybe post some home made brooders that worked for you ?

Window screen over the hole is a very good idea. Good thinking!

Will it melt? I do not think so.

If you want to be really sure, you can test it: just set up the brooder, plug in the heat lamp, and check back in a while to see what happened. Do it when you're home and awake, and if you're really concerned--put it in the middle of a concrete floor (like a garage) or a bare/fireproof space (like a driveway.) You will know for sure in a few hours' time!

(Sometimes testing things is the easiest way to know, if no-one else knows the answer.)

I cover my brooder with 1/2" hardware cloth and either hang the heat inside or on top, depending on what temperature they need.

Now about that hard wire cloth any hardware store ? Maybe amazon ? And what u paid for it if u can sorry if im asking too much

If your strapped for cash for a couple days, can you just set up the brooder in the bathroom and keep the door closed so the cat can't get in?
Obviously not a great long-term suggestion, but we all understand being budget mindful, especially these days.

Ryn.

Was thinking of doing that since i already have the incubator in there since its the hottest place in my apartment during summer so the temp stays pretty even on the warm side
