* My dad used to raise bettas for show and as I remember he used: clean (2nd day) rainwater in his tanks, 8O degree water (at least), a peat moss 'tea bag' for acidity, & "murkiness"-- changed the bag weekly and always sea salt in the water-- at least 1/8 teaspn to a gallon; He used a "fat pinch" method per gallon. Also-- the bettas had live plants (at least a few to nibble or hide in.) and sand until show month. Then it was bare, divided tanks for eualuation. And he fed mostly liue tubifex and live brine shrimp, and I THINK, minced beef heart, and minced earthworm in rotation. Oh, and we crushed any baby snails that showed up and let them eat those, too. Very low current in the bettas tanks, usually, altho it sometimes went up a bit to give em 'excercise' and a little variety challenge.
