If this is your first time I would wait until day10. This is because on my first hatch/candling...everyone was saying how they saw "veining" and I saw nothing on day 7. I did it again on day 10 and could tell that a blob was in there...and I could see a small dark spot about the size of a eraser. Hold the egg in your hand...and use the flashlight to place up against the egg from top or sides. Look for the airsac to have formed and should show at the big top end. Don't hold it up against the egg for too long.......
Good luck!

Stevenson...I'm confused. Do you have some "hatching" out now?? They were stuck? Or eggs got stuck inside.? If you have a "smell" and see any oozy stuff on a egg...get it out asap before it explodes and coats all the eggs with bacteria. That happened to a friend on BYC.
Sorry...typed in a hurry and put day 7 twice! Really meant to check day 10!

I had one that stunk and I removed it. I had 3 that were stuck to the egg turner...not sure why. I was told last hatch when I had one do this that they called them a seeper and to remove it. I did so with 2/3 because they were welsummer and I have very little faith that they will hatch since they are so old. The third egg was a lavender orpington. It didn't smell at all, so I got it out and cleaned it up and put it back in....I'll check it regularly to make sure it isn't leaking.

Hey! I just found this thread and it's awesome. I've got a broody hatching out 3 silver ameraucanas, one OEGB, and two broiler/RIR crosses. Can't wait to see the outcome!

How weird...never heard of an egg getting stuck but sounds like you did the right thing.

Hi Zax, when are your eggs expected to hatch? I love the silver coloring. Hope they work for you.
Welcome!

Late joining...I've got 12 Light & Dark Brahma eggs shipped from "Rebel Rooster" set May 05th. Day 7 today...just two more weeks....I so hope they hatch! My incubator has been nice and steady though the thermometers (4 of them) just can't agree on temp. 3 are close so I use that as the actual...the accurite is like 4-5 degrees low...that's scary.

I may try candling tonight because I can't wait but I haven't candled before so may wait until day 10 so I don't get discouraged if I don't see anything...
