ok I put in the hygrometer over 2 hours ago and it's reading 70% that's not good!! What do I do? just pull the plug for now?
how does that thing work??? I don't get that I have to thread the wick in water and expect it to read the humidity in the incubator. Someone enlighten me

Before I would put too much faith in what your hygrometer is reading, I would test its accuracy. There are several threads that tell how to do it. I put mine in a ziplock back with salt (no iodine) in a little water for about 6 hours. It is supposed to read 75%. Like I say though....find some threads on here that explain it better.

I read a couple. I didn't understand the concept until a few hours ago

it takes me awhile sometimes haha. I'll pick up some salt tomorrow
one thing though do you leave it on the counter for the 6 hours? away from sunlight.....and all that stuff. is there a specific ratio water to salt? or is it ok as long as there is much more salt than water?

What I did was added just enough water to make the salt into something like wet sand...you don't want water level to above the salt. I left mine on the counter (no sunlight) overnight.

So, I candled my eggs tonight....day 10 for the delawares (5/12 are developing) and day 7 for the eggs that took 5 days to arrive (5/17 are developing....I am very pleased with this) It would be outstanding if I can get all 10 to hatch!

Pattgal...hope you get it working right....I don';t have to use a meter on my incubator so could'nt help.
Stevenson that is great news!!! Good luck getting 100% of those viable to hatch.

I candle TODAY (10)....nervous. 27 eggs to check out! I'll post the results later.

I candled some time back and I had 9/9 going. got one more week till hatch day for this batch and got 24 more eggs in to hatch on June 4 that I got yesterday at the auction, they are a mixed bunch so I have no idea what all I got. I did get some green/blue eggs so I know that I have some easter eggers and that is what I really wanted. But for all I know they could grow up to lay brown or white eggs.

I candled at day 7 but wanted to take another look at the eggs on day 10. I believe my day 7 assessment is correct (one blood ring-we cracked to examine if yesterday, 3 nothings (I'm leaving these just in case but I'm sure it's wishful thinking) and then 8 good eggs. We could see the chicks moving inside the egg yesterday, my daughter was so thrilled (as was I). One week to lock down-then the real anxiety starts!
