We just noticed the swelling just now. We were in the run earlier today and feel like this wasn't there earlier.

First two are the side we hope are not affected. The last picture you can see the swelling. I don't see any crusting or oozing. I also don't see anything that looks like an injury.

We also just added sand to the run. Could it be dirt in her eye? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll look again with my glasses on. Daughter thought a sting, when I was feeling her cheek I noticed her eye had teared up a little. No foam or bubbles and I didn't see any nasal drainage.

Ok I had my glasses on and didn't see anything that looked like a bite. Her other side is now looking a bit swollen too. Daughter did say the she saw a bit white goop on her cheek before she told me to look. Oh and she doesn't want to lay down to rest like the others she stays standing.

UPDATE- I went out to let the girls out this morning and checked out Scarlet's face. All swelling and extra redness is gone. She is eating, drinking and moving around like normal. I think just like my daughter said she might have been stung by the fire ants she was eating. Later I'll look her over real good and see if I can spot a bite. Guess just like my kids these girls like to make me worry. I'm praying this is all that went on. Fingers crossed.

Ok well glasses on and now a second look at the girls. Scarlet has less swelling then yesterday and not as red. The swelling is not completely gone like it looked this morning. I have 3 more girls with swelling now. Just s bit and not as bad as Scarlet looked yesterday. I don't think this is fire ants and sent daughter to go get la200.

On top of that the little chicks that we got a month ago have bloody poop. So she is picking up corid for them.

I just want to cry, our first time chicken keeping and all hell is breaking loose.
I don't know what I'm doing here, just keep reading and trying to figure this out.

That is good news. I was really hoping it was just a sting, and not an infection. Permethrin 10% spray, available from most feed stores in a concentrate to mix many gallons, is safe and good to use around chicken coops for insects.
