Maybe if you tried this? But they might be too old already? I had a broody hen, no rooster, the hen stayed sitting for 3 mo. While I tried to find eggs or chicks she would look after. I was lucky enough to find someone who brought over 2 babies who were JUST hatched ( an hour out of the shell ) . I took the hen and her eggs and put her in a double bunny hutch. All os them were nuts until Put a blanket over the hutch so it was dark in there. Pretty quickly they were all quiet and then the momma started making small noises, almost like a cat purring. At night I gave them more water and food, and took out the other eggs.
Maybe keeping them in the dark for a few days? And separating them from all the others? I will put the whole story on the story page one day soon. I have been meaning to do that for awhile now. GOOD LUCK!

thank you everyone for all the great information. I had wished it had worked out myself as well. I am wondering if it didnt work because it wasnt completely dark. My setup is in the garage so it is pretty dark. however the warming light is on over on the opposite side of the box that my hen was in. So everytime i would go out there, she would wake back up and see me put the chicks in there. I also read another thread that said hens have to be broody for so many days before you can put the chicks in. Thoughts? My chicks are now 1 week and 2 days. Shoot i am almost tempted to get fertilized eggs and let her do it that way. We are going to use her for 4h showmanship in july i just hope she is out of this by then. sorry it is so long but the lady that i got my chicks from said that it is also un commonn that a columbian wyandotte is broody anyway.

Is it that you don't want her to be broody? 'cause if that's the case I know a way that might make her quit. Or she will quit after she hatches something but it's really whether or not you want chicks.

well i dont want her to be broody if there isnt going to be anything to hatch. However I dont mind a couple more chicks if that is what i need to do to break her of it. I just hate seeing her sit in the coop all flattened out, ALL day and to get nothing out of it. And since none of these eggs will hatch i am worried this will go on for a very very long time. So long answer short yes i want to break her of it. But i dont have a cage to do the cage thing. But i am worried that if i buy fertilized eggs to let her hatch, there is a good chance it will be a rooster. and i cant have a rooster where i live.

Oh I see. Quite the dilemma! Well any kind of box could work as long as it is small enough. Also sometimes when I tried to move my broodies into a different spot they would quite on me. Maybe if you moved her somewhere she didn't know she would quite. I know that eventually they will quite on there own but then you have a killer chicken your hands! At least I did! It was like she thought it was my fault her eggs didn't hatch and she would hunt me down, look at my face to make sure it was me, bite me and take off running and laughing! True story! I don't think that's 4h material though! If you aren't allowed to have roosters what are you allowed to have? You try a different kind of egg like a duck or something?

Well I have 8 hens right now. A buff brahma, a blue laced Wyandotte, a welsummer, a barred rock, an Easter egger, a black sex link, a bantam columbian Wyandotte, and a bantam gold laced Wyandotte. Roosters just seem to fall under the noise ordinance where I live. I think I am just going to get a fertilized egg and let her do her thing.
