Well, I went on vacation and I came home with poison ivy! I've been using some anti-ich gell on it, which does help, but is there a way to dry it out faster? I read online that you can rub the rash with alcohol to dry it out, and there are Ivy Dry products you can buy at the pharmacy, but are they better than the alcohol? I don't want to spend money on a product if I don't have to.....??

Make a paste of baking soda and water and let it sit on it until it dries, then wash it off. Do this a couple times a day it will dry it up

Good luck.

There's a lady down the street who uses oatmeal on it. Lets it get fairly dry and then rinses it off, leaving it open to dry more.

I use oragel when the itching from chiggers gets to be too bad. I don't get poison ivy, so I can't say from experience...

Un fortunately, once you have the rash....you have it.
Best thing to do is wash the area reallly really well with alcohol to get rid of the poison oils that cause the rash. Wash and dry the rash area, and apply calomine lotion (the pink stuff) and suffer for a few weeks.
If you end up with it in your eyes, ears, nose or mouth-go to the DR.

My advice is to get rid of the shoes and colthes you were wearing when you got in the ivy. The poison oils are really hard to remove from clothes (and dogs for that matter). Just toss them. the cost of new clothes aren't worth the chance of getting MORE rash.
I Hate that stuff!!!

I have several people in my family that are allergic to poison ivy. My step- son and BIL included. They use a cotton ball with bleach on it and dab onto the rash. Burns like heck but dries up in 1 to 2 days. They put it on 2 to 3 times a day. If they don't do this the rash spreads everywhere very fast and into the Dr. we go.

Edited to add DO NOT reuse towels or wash clothes and wash all bedding that you touch after it is gone or you can get it again or spred it.

I know how ya feel.I got it on my arms and was nursing my son at the time to.I had to put a blanket over them so I didn't give it to him. It's terrible.I used bleach when I didn't have anything else.It does work and will dry it up good to.I just dabbed it on with a Qtip. Good luck!
