Need tips/suggestions for dog's dry skin!

He's on a really good, high quality dog food...we checked out the ingredients and it's much better than other dog foods we could find out there. We have 4 dogs total and he's the only one that's itchy these days...so we know it's not the dog food...plus he's been on that food for some time now w/o any problems. We just noticed him having itchy issues when the weather started to get cold and we started to turn on the heat inside...that's why we feel pretty confident that it's dry skin.

The best thing is Derm Caps. Get a bottle. You give him 1 cap each day. I give them to my miniature pinscher, and her hair has gotten thicker, she now has hair on her stomach, the fur is so soft, and shiny. They are amazing.

If you deffinatly are feeding high quality food, then you need to suppliment with egg, olive oil, and yogurt (will help keep any skin yeast away), you should see amazing improovements in about 2-3 weeks. one egg a day, a tbs of oil a day, and 1-2 tbs of yogurt a day is my reccomendation, BUT if your dog has a sensitive stomach...start out slow, with less than half of this amt. Eggs can cause doggie gas.

I agree that it is most likely an internal problem. Dogs can get allergies just like we can. Like me, for example. I used to love eating eggs, would eat some at least once a week, if not more. Now if I eat even one bite, I break out in hives.

I would also disagree with the bathing suggestions. If you bathe the dog, it will wash off any natural oils the dog has on it's skin, making the dryness worse.

What's his diet? Since dogs are carnivores they're supposed to only eat meat (eggs and diary is fine though). Most dog foods have grains/veggies/fruits in them and that's bad for dogs and could be whats causing his itching

My 4 year old suffers from severe dry skin, and he only gets a bath in the winter about once every 3 days, unless he really needs it. I just wash his 'pertinent' parts daily, his booty, face and hands.

That's what made me think of it!

YOu wouldnt believe how much I agree with what you are doing! I mean hair alone everyone around me washes their hair 1-2 a day....what!?! That ruins your hairs natural ability to keep itself protected against many things, sun, heat, cold. I wash my hair at the MOST 2 times a week....gross...I dont think so...my hair is lonnnng, shiney, and even though in the winter i sitll suffer with some dry skin on my scalp that would be 110xs worse i if i washed it everyday. I also wash only with cool water and a natrual- perferably herbal shampoo and conditioner. Its no different with the body. Ofcourse the parts like armpits and what not *privates* need kept clean (pertinet haha cute) but everything else doesnt need continuously washed unless you get dirty constantly lol! It's nice to hear other people agree with that on humans as well!

My skin is very sensitive, no matter how much lotion I use this time of year and sometimes even in the summer i've got dry skin atleast somewhere on me...it's no fun. My one young cousin is plagued by dry skin (all over his body), it's almost psoriasis like my aunt (not his mom) has but not bad enough to be considered it.
