A medium-size dog weighing between 35 and 45 pounds, the Standard Schnauzer is truly the standard Schnauzer: larger than Miniatures, smaller than Giants.

I guess your choice depends on your situation. How big of a home you have, how big of a yard, whether you want it to sleep in your bed with you, if you will allow it up on the furniture, etc. Will you pay for a groomer every 6 to 8 weeks (Schnauzer) or groom it yourself? (Corgi) I know what my choice would be, but you're not getting a dog for me, lol.

I know nothing about Schnauzers but we have corgis at work. I know enough about them that I'd never own one.

Schnauzer! I like bigger dogs and every one I’ve met are nice.

Standard schnauzers are much nicer, IMO, and healthier than the minis. Minis temperaments are all over the map, I have known some wonderful ones, and some real freaks. Very prone to multiple health issues, but all the schnauzer sizes are prone to cancer, just FYI. Speaking from a lifetime of handling dogs as a groomer and as a vet assistant, so yes, I've known a lot of them. Corgis are very strong willed, but certainly trainable. Prone to back issues.Very barky. Activity level, higher for corgis, but both are active breeds. No couch potatoes here! Both, IMO, can make good farm dogs, or town dogs, given proper training. What are your plans for a dog? Companion, performance, predator control? All of the above?
