Need to buy a pellet gun

City limits can really toss a wet blanket over the whole situation.

At least I don't have to worry about a discharging of firearms (you might also find out what the city classifies as a firearm) restriction.

Are your chickens in an open enclosure that you could place netting over?

Maybe check into a paintball gun? You should be able to shoot that in city limits, it will make any small predator think twice (may even break bones in a bird), and it shouldn't be too expensive (might be around $100 if I remember correctly).

I would think twice before I posted about harassing any protected birds.

It is also illegal to shoot them with pellet guns, paint balls or BB's.

Covering their run with netting is your best bet.

You guys know you're posting on a public forum, right?

I have about 3/4 acre in the rural urban area. I'm zoned agricultural and commercial. I have a very secure pen in the yard as well as a secure coop in the garage. I let them all out in the morning to free range the yard and lock them up at night. The hawk (it's a cooper's hawk) has been hanging out since last weekend and one of the chickens ignored lockdown last night and was breakfast this morning. Here's a pic. I took this Monday morning through my back window:

The neighbors have little dogs so we're always watching. I've seen them, as well as other small hawks fly right over my yard/deck but they've never bothered the birds before, just going after rodents and small rabbits.

That's not something I would advertise. The penalty for a common, misdemeanor violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is now up to $15,000 and 6 months in jail.

TipsyDog are you sure about that, I thought all interweb thingies were private, you mean they ain't?

Yes, thanks all. I understand this is public and won't do anything to violate any laws. I don't own any firearms. Just frustrated.

"They" like to watch us crazy chicken people. I don't know why, but we seem to be on several "lists". Hmmm.... Maybe it's the eggs. Small DNA devices, easily concealed? I think they just wonder why we spend so much time in the coop and what's really going on in there...

Ever thought of using paintballs??? this is what I use because there is a school about 600 yards down the road... you can either put them in a gun or use a slingshot... If you wanna get rid of him forever... freeze the paint balls first
