Need to understand

Sad news to report this morning. Tommy our roo was deceased when we opened the coop this morning. They all went up normally last night. He was roosting when I closed coop last night. This morning he was in front of the coop door when we found him. Not sure why this happened. He was 18weeks. Nothing in the water or food seems out of the ordinary. Had to put cayenne pepper out there to keep the squirrels out and have not seen once since I start doing that. Kinda sad today.

Awe.... :-( We lose one here and there too. It's heartbreaking EVERY time...

Thank you all for your kind words. Last year the same thing happen. We lost our roo and he was fine the day before. It is heart breaking now the hens are lost with out him. The other one we think is roo doesn’t crow at all.

If he is a roo, he'll learn to step up shortly.

Sorry for your loss. If you would like to find out what might have been wrong, your state vet could perform a necropsy, if you keep his body cold in a cooler or refrigerator. Don’t freeze it. Here is a link where you can contact yours:
