 Needing advice on feed!

I have never seen a chook choke on scraps! Chicks maybe but a grown hen? That's the ya first time I've ever heard such a thing

It depends on the food,too.
My ducks recently choked on bread,im not gonna doubt that chicks winr.

I never said a hen.I am meaning a chick when I say Choke on scraps.Ive only had 1recent hen choke on scraps

Never had this problem.. But I made sure everything is torn into little pieces so they would never have this issue.. If you are giving them huge chunks of dry bread and they try and just devour the whole thing then I can see this happening.

We are responsible or our animals, and taking out any dangers is part of being a good pet owner.. You seem to have alot of odd occasions with your birds.. hope you learn from your mishaps with your babies!

I do cut them up,I just dont understand if their too big or what. Most times they can swallow them, butive had chokes.
My chicks were free rangers to start with. They never got our scraps, maybe bread, but as chicks, they never got any,so I was just saying by their crop etc.A chicks crop is much smaller, remember this.

Yesterday I searched can corn cause salmonella.Well no,it is raw food.
Im sorry for the incorrect information, then I though, well if it did,my chickens would be dead, they eat corn every morning(cuase its made from corn chicken feed)

Wow your EE must have been inhaling it's food! Poor thing, hope it recovered ok. We've always just thrown scraps in as they are. Even whole fruit that's past it (but not rotten, the worms get that) and they just peck it to bits. Ducks I could see choking on bread, they don't have sharp beaks like chooks

For many many years chooks were raised on scraps and grains, it didn't kill them.
We know more about balanced diets now so scraps shouldn't make up a full diet of course but they will eat anything you give them, they are scavengers in the wild. Avacado is toxic but otherwise anything else is fine, they rarely eat something bad for them , I'm sure my mum used to through all our citrus peel in the scrap bucket with the rest but I have no idea it the chooks ate anything of the remaining fruit (obviously they didn't eat the peel itself)

Hmmmm...

.well if avacados are toxic to chickens then mine should be dead by now. I fed them leftover avacado scraps this past summer and fall and even bought them some when they were on sale and they gobbled them up and no adverse effects....
