 Needing advice on feed!

I should've said,"Too much corn" causes it.
It must have to be A BUUNNNCCH to cause the disease.
It must not hurt them too bad, because 90% of the food chickens eat (Chicken feed) has grain/corn in it.

Well, i've never heard of such a thing. I have been trying to find anything to back up the things you have said, and so far nothing has came up. I'm not calling you a liar, but it's hard to just take someones word on this kind of thing. My gramps has had chickens since he was born and I asked him about what you're saying and he gave a deep chuckle and a, "No." Im not saying you're a liar! Or anything of the sorts.. but it's much more helpful to post links where professionals on this kind of ordeal give you insight instead of a "Well I read it, so it must be true!" I see feeding corn a touchy subject on here, but my chickens don't receive just corn either way.

You might also want to consider fermenting your feed. I believe it improves digestion and nutrient uptake. I have just started this on mixed corn but my chickens still have access to layers pellets. I am thinking of fermenting the pellets too as they seem to be loving the fermented grain and I'm impressed at how their poop has changed and is much better formed and less smelly. There is a thread regarding fermented feeds for meat birds but it can also be done for layers too and people are posting good results.

I think it is also important to take into consideration whether chickens are free ranging or not when feeding mostly grains/scratch. If they are getting a good level of protein from bugs and worms and getting lots of exercise scratching for them, then they won't get fat and the lower protein level in the grain compared to a complete feed/pellet will be balanced out by the bugs. Similarly, if you supplement with mealworms, that will up the overall protein level and balance the lower grain protein.

I think the key is not to worry too much about their diet unless your chickens don't look healthy or you are not getting any eggs.

Now,I will say, medicated feed can cause issues for many livestock.
Ducks/ducklings CANNOT have medicated feed.

They become limp, and die. They never grow, its almost as if they a stopper in growing. They hardly grow feathers,ETC,basically their in horrible condition. After stopping this,my hen(duck) limps because of the Medicated chick feed.

This I wouldn't give as a every day feed.Eggs would have plenty of medicine, not that I think any certain things would hurt you in them.

(Just warning you!)

Ducks and ducklings can have Medicated feed with no ill affects as long as the medication is within the guide lines for ducks.

Look at the studies done on this situation and you will find that the information you just posted is false.

Quote: Actually,my past experiences has been bad.Ducklings are not suppose to have antibiotics. Both me and my frien ddiscovered this out.Oh should I say Medicated Chick feed.Ducklings cant have Medicated chick feed,They can have medicated feed.

Also,I know im nota liar.I had false information, sorry.
I guess you can lear a little bit from the elders.
Now medicated chick feed CAN cause ducks to ill out.Or even kill them.

Cracked corn is easier to swallow ETC,but it any corn causes salmonela(Sorry i have no idea how to spell it.).
It's also a filler, and could cause health problems.
Most corn can cause Salmonela.

Really, only the Medicated feed may be good for a chicken.Although i'm sure it has a corn in it.There really isnt anything you can do,but feed them your own way.

You should really do some research on the information that you post, I mean real research not reading some crap that's posts on the webpage, web forum or a website.

Corn is by far a, "filler". Corn has a nutritional value and provides just as much and sometimes more nutrition than other grains used in a feed ration.

Also your chickens have a better chance of getting Salmonella from scratching around in your backyard than eating corn.

Well i am not sure how to put a link on here. Many people have said Corn does. From experiences of others,it does. Either way it goes, corn causes1 issue. We each have our own opinions. -ThePRfan
If you want to post a link here, click the icon above the message you are typing that looks like a chain link. It is next to the @ sign. Type or paste or link there and it will show up in your message. With all due respect, your claims just sound ridiculous. Corn causes salmonella? That's like saying drinking water causes HIV infection. Now don't get me wrong, just because I think your claim sounds silly, I'd like to be proven wrong. If you can post a link, or more likely several, of valid scientific studies that have shown that corn causes salmonella infection in chickens, I will change my tune. Now if you were to feed a chicken a diet of 100% corn OR wheat OR oats, etc, and didn't allow them to free range, I could see the immune system and overall health of that chicken getting weak. They would be severely malnourished and over time their immune strength would weaken. And they could then be vulnerable to sickness caused by an overgrowth of any number of pathogens, including salmonella. But I highly doubt corn or any other single grain would be the cause, it would likely be malnourishment. As for hearing things from others, my motto is always to take it with a grain of salt. Have you ever played the "circle secret game"? A group of people stand in a circle. One person whispers a secret in the person's ear to their left. The listener then whispers what they heard to the person to their left. This continues around the circle, each person whispering what they heard to the person next to them. Finally, the original person will hear their secret whispered back to them by the last person in the circle. Usually what the original person hears sounds nothing like what they first whispered, often with hilarious results! While this is hilarious in a game, it can wreak havoc in more serious matters. It's one way rumors are started. My point is don't believe everything you hear from people and especially what you read on the Internet. Finally, I too place great value on personal experience. But to draw conclusions can be tricky.

There are a number of studies that prove you and your friends incorrect. These studies were done by professors with PhD's and avid breeders of water fowl that have far more education on the situation than you have..
