Neighbor Claims my chickens have given her husband Histoplasmosis

I would not move my coop, and I would tell her that if she trespasses on my property again I'm calling the police. :smackIt's not your problem that her husband has lung problems. He's at risk all the time from wild birds anyway. They're way filthier than your chickens will ever be. If she can't stand it she can move. I'd probably go around to your neighbors and address what happened. Assure them that they're not in any danger from your chickens, and explain how the fungus is already present in soil anyway and carried by wild birds, so they're at no more risk now than they were before. (And maybe bring them some cake or cookies or something) How many people did she try to turn against you anyway?

If she tries anything I'd sue her for defamation. That's irresponsible fear mongering trying to turn the entire neighborhood on you like that. Bitch. If you really want to make her life difficult, go talk to every lawyer in town. Once you're "their client" they can't take a case against you, so she'd have to go way out of her way to find someone to represent her.

I don’t know who she’s been in contact with yet, I don’t know if she went to immediate neighbors or just the bordering neighbors. I don’t know how to handle that one yet. I may wait and see what the fall out, if any, looks like. We also have a pretty close knit nextdoor following. I was thinking of posting there but I want to wait until I’ve got more information. All great advice! I need to check the ordinance to make sure I’m in compliance first with the coop etc.

Yeah, making sure everything is legal on your end is a good idea. I know my local ordinances require coops to be 5 ft from adjacent property lines, so if yours is right on the fence and you have the same rules you might need to scoot it out a bit.

Wow. That sucks. Can you see out of the eye?

Mostly. I've got significant impairment of my peripheral vision. It's kind of like looking through lace? They discovered it when I was four and I've had three "flair ups" that required a mixture of steroids and antibiotics to minimize new "floaters". When I was 23 I had one appear and had to have my first injection. Far scarier sounding than the shot ended up being. I still shudder when I think about it, though.

It's the weeks of high dose prednisone that turn me into a raving crazy(er) person :gig

And that's all only in your left eye. How curious. And it's not curable, just treatable?

Yeah, just the left, thank God! And no, no cure. The other things that can happen from toxoplasmosis are enlarged head, mental retardation, etc. So, with a little perspective I'm actually very fortunate.

I keep hoping eye transplants will become common and someone will want to case study me :gig

Hey, if eye transplants do become a thing you could sign up for clinical trials and probably get it done for free. They might even pay you!

But yes, considering how bad it could have been you were quite fortunate.
