neighbor extremely upset -- looking for solutions

I read in another thread about some device that just looks like a birdhouse, but which puts out a high-pitch sound that only dogs hear. It's guaranteed to stop them from barking, and it works up to 50 feet from the device. I'd put that sucker out in your back yard, and just see what happens. I think they were around $35 and were found online at something like Dr's Foster and Smith or something? I hope someone else will have more details, but that sounds like the best solution.

1- have you checked with your local bylaws regarding chickens. If the bylaws allow you to own chickens, keep them in your yard and you shouldn't worry about the neighbor.
2-Tell you neighbor about the ceyenne pepper idea, as some dogs do have allergies and if the dog ends up with a problem, and the neighbor finds that you have put it there without her consent, then you have a bigger problem.

I agree wholeheartedly with all above posts. But, I would make sure that fence is strong enough to contain that dog. that could be a huge problem if it decides to dig under, climb over or just knock down that fence.

And if it were me I would have my chickens out ALL DAY!!!! It may perhaps get used to them a little faster or better yet the dog could go hoarse.

tell her your going to the pound to adopt 3 cats and that should keep the dogs from barking at the CHICKENS

ask her would that make her feel better

I agree, it's not your problem, but something you could do, along the lines of the bark collar... They sell wireless anti-barking devices that transmit obmoxious ultrasonic beeping noises whenever the dog barks, it's supposed to disuade the dog from barking... I don't know how well it works, and it's not cheap, but otherwise, it could be a great option. I saw it at my neighborhood feed store for about $35.

If you are legally allowed to have the chickens then I would tell your neighbor she needs to get her dog under control ....if you are not allowed to have them then make nice and try the pepper, birdhouse thing or the fence/netting. You could talk to your neighbor and ask them to keep the dog in for one hour everyday so you can let your chickens out.

Many years ago I had a Chow that barked if anyone drove onto our street. She thought it was her job to protect and patrol the whole neighborhood! My dogs too bark if the wind blows the wrong way. LOL They start the barking, in the house they come and into the crates they go.

I think the OP is being too nice.

I don't think it is your problem that her dog is barking. However, I wouldn't go about it in a rude, or un-neighborly way in telling her this. You don't ever want to create any more problems than necessary with neighbors. You have to live with these people so even if it takes extra effort on your part to be able to live in harmony is always worth it IMO. I would tell her really nice that there isn't anything I could do or should have to do. Suggest ideas to her to help keep her dog from barking....Good Luck

Oh wow... she's mad at YOU, for HER dog barking? Some people are so idiotic.
If you are allowed to own chickens where you live then the problem is HERS to deal with.
Tell her you looked up bark collars and you'll be glad to print out the info for it LOL.
I have 12 chickens... and a bird dog. He could care less about my chickens in their run. He never barks at them. The neighbors dogs never bark at my chickens.... heck my neighbors even mentioned they liked my rooster crowing. (I got rid of 2 roosters and they were actually a bit sad!) LOL
You neighbor has problems.... I cant believe she even blamed this on you.
