Neighbor hates my chickens- will she do them harm?

Not to mention I have some guineas in the bator... We only have 5 acres, a small portion of what was once a huge dairy farm, just happy we have the barn. Right to farm act is not a thing in Maine. Due to the nature of the state however, usually roosters are only banned within city limits. Cant believe they can control that when you have as many acres as you do!

Oh my goodness. I just read this whole story - I can't believe this is true! I'm so sorry that you have to live with this! I can't even imagine... I started out reading this htread and being amazed at how old it was, wondering why it had been brought to the top. I was expecting to hear a happy ending when I got to the end! I hope that that happy ending will soon be in sight.

I used to live on a property where we were not allowed to have any farm animals at all, including chickens, nor any greenhouses, garden structures or clotheslines that were visible from the road! And this is not the city, but a tiny island in the middle of nowhere with a strong farming community! Needless to say, we still got chickens. They were loud... you could hear my ISA Brown hen screaming her egg call every morning throughout the entire neighbourhood. Thank goodness no one complained. I have the feeling we weren't the only illegal chicken owners up there...

Best of luck to you!

Sounds to me like she doesn't like it that your fence looks rather like hers, both light wood. She can't stand the similarity so is putting in something different. This is very much something that a mentally ill person would do. And she is mentally ill, no question.

Well, my lil roo finally gave a proper crow today. Had to smile at the last few days efforts!

I just am totally amazed that the lady is so way out there. Spock sure is pretty and to think he caused all this trouble. Lol. He didn't. The crazy lady did. I think the crazy lady is trying to one up you with her fence. By the way, your fence is really nice. Personally, I would not trust this woman at all and I am glad you have your chickens secure and you have cams. Hopefully she will tire of all she's doing. I can hope can't I?

I will continue to read this thread and hope it has a good ending. Take care.

Tomorrow will be an interesting day. Tonight DH and I were in between our chicken fence and our wood fence marking the spots where our two new evergreen trees will go. They will be planted just in the right spots so they will grow and block the awful lights on Crazy Lady's house. Our 3 dogs were joyfully running back and forth with us. Lots to sniff as they are never allowed in there. Then what do I hear but Crazy Lady, "Listen they're right there!" Unfortunately the plastic fence does not block her voice anymore. I think this was the first time in a month I heard her voice clearly. It sounded panicked and crazy.

After DH and I marked the spots for the evergreens we marked the spots for the plants near the road. I took great pleasure in spray painting a large orange "B" on the ground near the end of our fence. "B" for the White Birch tree we will plant of course. It was one of my dad's favorite trees.

I really love evergreens. They are colorful in the winter when everything else is grey and dead. Crazy Lady hates evergreens. In the past she made a point of telling me how ugly the ten or so varieties I have all around my yard are.

So in addition to the white birch and the two large evergreens, I picked up a few more evergreens. A Juniper, with a gnarled trunk and beautiful blue needles. 4 feet high... almost the last thing Crazy Lady will see before she pulls out her driveway. The last thing she will see is a small group of evergreens-just 2 feet tall planted in a cute little group. Located just in the right spot so I will no longer see her orange property line marker or her stupid signs. I really, really, do love evergreens.

Crazy Lady needs to understand her job is not "Neighbor's landscape commentator and critic" Sheesh, how nosy!

Now how on earth could she hear you "right there" unless she was also "right there"?

I will be gosh derned if anyone will tell me whether I can be in my yard next to my fence tending to my landscaping when I wish.

Within the confines of the no noise after 10 pm ordinance and all of course.

Congrats on the new trees I hope they grow FAST.

Trees are planted! My friend called my chicken's yard "Chicktopia". If my chickens only knew the problems that border their world. I wondered today why Crazy Lady's GSD had been barking A LOT every day for about a week now. It was frantic semi-aggressive barking on their second story deck. My dogs ignored his barking. They recognize dysfunction in other dogs. Because they are generally laid back they just let it go. Then today I heard a pretty loud Crazy Lady trying to quiet her barking dog. "It's OK, there, there." She was trying to talk in a baby voice but you could hear the frustration. Then the dog's voice changed, a snarl now edged his bark and she stopped talking. My two older dogs went crazy barking until I quieted them. They heard the threats in the other dog's voice. "Back off, I'll bark if I want to!"

Why is that dog so fearful all of a sudden? Then I realized. The giant tarp fence Crazy Lady had put up. That is when the barking started. The dog's afraid of the tarp! And she knows it, but is not capable of walking him to the back of her yard and helping him get over it. And she won't take the tarp down because she wants it. She doesn't care about anyone else. Poor dog.... doomed to be as dysfunctional as his owner.

Chicktopia

:) Juniper Tree....one of my favorites. (Yes, one day it will hide the pole... not for a while though!)

Birch Tree for my dad

Lovely! I am with you on the dysfunctional dog. Dogs tend to reflect their owner's personalities. Mine won't mind my husband because I deal with them primarily. But, they do exactly what I want them to most of the time :). I recently inherited two lion's head rabbits from my daughter - probably permanently. She's looking for a new place to live. So, now I have 11 chickens, 3 horses, 3 dogs and 2 rabbits.

Hope things continue to improve with the neighbor situation. Mine are pretty good, but can sometimes be a little nosey.

Here we go again. This a new one. I assume it was Crazy Lady who backed her husband's SUV up in her turn-around which backs up to our chicken pen. Then she opened up the hatch and cranked the music up as loud as it would go. I don't bet they are cleaning the car-it's 50 degrees out with on and off rain. The music started 15 minutes ago. Spock's response was to crow like mad. Good boy. That's why I went outside...he was crowing at a weird time. Luckily, I can barely hear her music in the house and I'm assuming they can't run the music off the car battery forever! I'm going to bet she went and complained to the town again and was told to go scratch!
