Neighbor is buying chicken feed

If it were my neighbor, I'd give him a metal trash can with a big red bow and a thank you note.

^definitely this, and including a tie-down for the top of the can so raccoons can't get in.

My neighbors can buy feed and/or help with feed costs anytime they wish!!!

Wow! This is a wonderful story. See how having chickens can bring joy to people's lives? I totally agree with the buying him a trash can to keep the feed in. Lucky you to have a great neighbor. Hopefully the dog won't be an issue.

I agree I'd take feeding them a little extra as a great neighbor, wish I had a couple of them like him, don't get me wrong my neighbors are great and never complain, 1 has a large flock of her own, but having some help feeding them would be awsum.......never knew chickens could eat so much, I can't wait for butchering day, I'm feeding 34 roosters right now and they eat alot more than my 16 hens. LOL
I would also buy him a can and a big TY card, and as soon as my hens start laying a dozen eggs too boot. Wish everyone had this kind of neighbor.

Agreed, agreed and agreed! Your chickens are obviously bringing this man some joy. I am sure he would soak up any educational information that you gave him and who knows, you may need a chicken babysitter in the future. Who better to ask then a neighbor who loves your girls and understands their needs. Thanks for sharing this great story.

You might buy a watertight storage container big enough to hold that bag of feed your neighbor has so kindly paid for. Let him know that you are so grateful to have a neighbor to enjoy your chickens with. Explain that the feed must be kept 100% dry, so you have an extra container for the feed you noticed in his yard.

Hope you both have great days watching over that flock together!

Also a small trash can will hold the food and keep it air tight! That's very kind of your neighbor! It sounds like he means well. I would also tell him you are concerned because the hens are jumping over to his side. Are his dogs aggressive? I have 4 dogs of my own that are sweet as pie with the chickens. I have one in particular who lays in the pen with babies and licks them while I'm out feeding them. She has never been aggressive, just mothers them.

That is so sweet. The joy that the chickens bring.

Great advice..... I'd make sure you tell hiim that the feed can attract rats too...so keep it tight and secure.
