Yipes.Sound's like Moi and neighbor. He has cattle and stuff I have poultry. He ticked cause he has to fix my fence this weekend because We graciously allowed his cattle to feed on about 2 acres that adjoin my coops. My chickens dont go over there his cows come here.He brought wire and post to fix my lot tomm.soo We good.I know what kind of damage chickens and waterfowl can do to plant's and landscaping.Thats why I have lived basicaly in a Dust bowl for 5 year's.That's ok with with me but maybe not someone else. But I still demand the same respect from other neighbor's like keeping Kill Dog's up and penned and be responsible if you have Large livestock.I bet my neighbor is gonna being doing the

.When We move Again.I so fear for him and the next occupant's though. He wont have a cowsitter anymore and all of his free water and grass will be gone.

I live in an area where people think its fine for dogs to run loose and do whatever they want. there is 2 animal control officers for a large area here, no they won't come, I've called. Quote from animal control" we have traps but they have holes in them, if they are attacking you or your animals just shoot them" Once I called for a non aggressive dog well if you have him penned up I'll come tomorrow this was 3pm, if not I won't get there until after 6pm since I am at home and just can't get there before then.

So no loose dogs being a normal risk out here is NOT BS its almost every day. This week it was a white german shepard type dog. Last week it was a lab. before that hunting beagles, those had collars and tags, called and returned to owner. Before that a yorkie type and another small dog

My dogs are fenced in, I am a responsible dog owner. But when Joe blow down the road decides his dogs need a run they let them go and hope they come home and do not supervise them.

Our county doesn't have its zoning and statutes online that I can find anywhere.

I can't remember where you said you were but here in Iowa we get a lot of snow and we put up snow fences in the winter.

Essentially it is a heavy vinyl/plastic with holes in it. It comes in bright orange or green. If you want something super ugly to annoy the neighbor get orange! Every 10 feet or so you thread a t-bar through the fencing and it stands up and catches the snow. Our driveway is 200 ft? or 100? I can't remember, I think I blocked out the whole episode. We put it up in an afternoon. (a LONG afternoon-more like a day) Then we took it down in another afternoon. Then we put it up again in yet ANOTHER afternoon after our neighbor told us we had put it in the wrong place.

Anyway my point is that if you can find this stuff it is relatively cheap and would probably keep them contained. I agree that bad things will probably happen to them if they continue to go over there. He'll find something else but hopefully it won't involve you.

Stop calling and start DOING. Either catch them and take them in so they have to pay a fine, or shoot them and bury them. I didn't mean it was BS that it happened, I meant it was BS FOR it to happen.

So you got a fence for your dogs?

But not your chickens?

How do you keep the chickens safe?

You got loose dogs running every where.

And you let your chickens run loose. So letting dogs run loose is not acceptable, but you feel your chickens should be allowed?

98% of the time my chickens are on my property and that is legal that is called free ranging. It wasn't until the neighbor started piling grass that it became an issue of them crossing 2 ft over the property line in the last 2 weeks . I have 2 great Pyrenees early morning and late evening is when the dogs tend to come around, and the chickens are in bed. My dogs don't go through the field fence where they are and 98% of the time the chickens aren't even on that side of my house. If an animal comes up the chickens go to where the dogs are.

I have them locked in their coop, The run isn't big enough for them but it will have to do for now, hence why i was letting them out to free range on my own property.

Neighbor first said something 2 days ago, then again today, not enough time to get a fence up. excuse me for not having the money to run to lowes to buy fencing material that since hubby is working nights that I would have to put up by myself, really hard to put up a fence with 1 person.

As for catching loose dogs and taking them in, thats a big no I'm not putting an unknown animal even in a crate in my vehicle with my children. I don't own a truck. I have no babysitters that I can turn to on a moments notice to watch my kids. Those with the luxury of this are lucky.

Yes, i see it now..
Its the neighbors fault cause he has grass under his trees!! How rude of him!! He should know better than to do that on his property!! It might make your chickens go over there...
I agree with you now... hes just being a jerk!
What a shame.. you're the innocent victim in this situation, for sure!

yea whatever redhen, its the chickens that are the innocent victims, not me

excuse me for asking a question concerning the legality of something I'll go back to lurking and not posting.

So because you neighbor decides to do something different with his lawn it's HIS fault the chickens go there?

Hmm, I've build my coop, three tractors, chain link fencing for the EIGHT dogs, and fencing for the geese by myself.

Then if you don't want to do something, quit complaining about it!

I think what you were wanting by posting this is for everyone to agree with you, that you had a jerk for a neighbor, and that HE should do something about his yard, NOT that you should do something about your chickens going into his yard.

I'm very sorry that you're in a poo-ing match with your neighbor, but YOU are in the wrong.
