Neighbor threatening to "take out my roosters"

I agree sir cya cya cya that is why I suggested checking into laws and practicing outside, and not carrying the gun unless you are practicing or need it out side of the house do not give the guy a bit of leverage but don't give in an inch and without saying a word make sure he knows his boundaries.

you know i live on a farm and when something like that happens and they do kill our animals they tend to lose more than we did because i am a good shot with the rifle but not inless i know it was them i have game cams out so i know what gose on

a great gun to have on the farm to carry around on you is a bond arm's derringer - called the 'snake slayer'. it's small, but packs a wallop. it shoots a 410 shell or a 45 long colt. it's for close up work so you don't have to worry about shooting your neighbor by accident, but it takes good care of close predators regardless of how many legs they have, & snakes too. well maybe it wouldn't take care of a bear. lol

I too hate confrontations. I had to confront the owner of the dog who killed my chickens and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Just like other have said keep a journal and document everything. Go ahead and talk to the police it won't do any harm! Maybe he is jealous that a young person has a nice piece of property and can take care of it! You should be proud of yourself! So sorry you have to go thru this!

Some places have passed "Right to Farm" laws to combat these type of complaints. I have "NO FARMS, NO FOOD" bumper sticker on my truck to remind people of farmer's role in their lives.
"whiney voice" but food comes from supermarkets not farms and the country should be full of cute ba lambs and moo cows not nasty smelling manure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" People really don't have any idea where their food comes from and that could be big trouble for them at some point.

Your neighbor sounds like the type that is used to getting his way by bluffing and throwing his weight around. It probably works well for him, and will continue to if you become the most recent person to buy into his juvenile methods. Based on what you've related, he also sounds like someone whose unstated and unreasonable expectations aren't being met...and it's not his fault, in his view. I would keep on doing what you are doing, which is keeping your home in a rural area. Sometimes a simple reply of "are you threatening me?" or "what do you mean by that?" is enough to provide a reality check. I would not do anything to escalate, just keep doing the next right thing within moral, legal and ethical reason. He is likely waiting for you to take a stand so that he can pick away at your stance. You don't have to counter his statements. Just ask him for clarification about what he means each time he says something that challenges you. Basically, treat him kindly, as you might a pushy kid.

Hey guys. So sorry that I haven't been able to update or respond in the last couple of days, its a very busy time of year around here. I feel like I barely have time to sleep and not enough daylight in the day to get everything done.

So here is the current deal. He came to the fence line (not on my property) to have a little chat again. He started off by asking how I was planning to improve my field

suggesting that I mow down my long grass. Seriously??? I have my field cross fenced quite a few times so that I can rotationally graze. Just because he keeps his field mowed down to exactly 4 inches, doesn't mean I have to. I told him that it really didn't seem to be any of his business what I do. I also mentioned that this is a rural area that is intended for farming and so on. This for some reason made him VERY mad. He said quite a few obscenities. I did not cuss at all!! Go me! But on the up side I think that I have a better feel for him now. I think that he a big bully (obviously) and is used to people doing what he tells them to do.

I do have a fence that runs that perimeter so no worrying about property line disputes. I do have firearms. I was living in an area that meant that I had grizzly bear and wolves (yes wolves they are everywhere in Idaho these days) among many other animals on the property that I rented. I also hunt, deer, elk, black bear, and wolves (legal don't worry) so I know how to use my firearms. I have also installed my 2 game cameras. And am in the process of getting my hot wire going around the garden, which is also the property line with him. I will not be giving him any eggs or produce.

I did mention what is going on to my other neighbor who said he would keep a lookout for me also. They are retired and home all the time.

All I have to say is, having a neighbor who doesn't like you sucks!! I will do some responding to everyones wonderful and very insightful posts this evening.

Sooooooo glad you put him in his place and are prepared to handle any further, more serious, attempts to exert his control over your life.

Good work! Sounds nice and tidy on your part, and it was a good idea getting another neighbor involved, too.

Yeah, it sucks living next to an idiot, I know. But the best you can do is ignore them and stick to your own plans/activities on your own property. If he wants to sit over there and smolder, so be it. Not your concern.
