Neighbors dogs in coop. UPDATE! 2nd time. 911/charges/court today

when our neighbors lab killed my mom's birds, they were so nice about it. They got the police to make a report of how many were dead and had my mom get estimates on everything and send it to the insurance co for collection. They wanted the price of chicks, feed, electricity, water and supplies. Neighbors like that don't happen often.

I don't know about Florida, but I know here in PA we can shoot the dogs and still go after the owner. Plus the owner has a ton of fines to pay. Also here since the dogs have proven to go after and kill livestock, we can shoot them as long as they are on our property. I am from the city, but keep my animals on my property. They do not wander at large. I have 3 out door cats that do not leave my property. Why? because the three of them hang around the house hunting mice, voles and such.

The electric fence is a good idea, but check with the local laws. I know here we have to place notices that we have an electrified fence. We posted the signs but the fence is not electrified as of yet. The signs are more to keep the 2 legged varmints away.

This guy appears to me to be a bad neighbor dog owner situation. It is a no win. Guaranteed the neighbor moved way out in the country because the city fined him for similar stuff.

We are dealing with a bad neighbor. They wanted their son to rent this place, but he couldn't afford it. So now that we are here they call the landlord every chance they can. The best one was that we put his $3000 riding mower outside in the snow. The landlord called ticked as anything until he found out that it was under two tarps and not out in the weather. We are pretty sure the landlord is not going to pay much attention to them now. If they had been nice and not tried to start trouble we would have been moving in a year and half. Now we won't be moving as soon as they like.

Rhoda Bruce, your neighbors are one in a million. I do hope tho, their dog doesn't have any more "accidents." Some people with tons of money don't mind spending it, and think it "cures" everything.

Boy I wish we had good neighbors like you. Mine are real snobs. They have looked down on us since we moved here. Note sure why, They even have the same attitude in church. Yes Church! Anyway, I am waiting for the ins. co to call me back. I hope they can do something.
The owner even asked hubby if he still did the same work (as if to threaten his job!) But what he doesn't know is that I can report his actions to the DBPR ( Dept. of Business and Professionsl Regulations) He has a license there. I hope he doesn't try to get hubby fired from his job. A lawyer told me it is real easy to do. WAH

I can never understand why people think going to church is going to save them, That is not what the bible says, in fact it says the opposite. Look up "works" in the King James.
Good fences make good neighbors.

Of all the cliche sayings there are, there are none truer! Maybe we should revise it and say "good fences or good distance", but even that doesn't help sometimes. I can honestly say though I can only recall us ever having one really bad neighbor. Most have been amazing. I can't imagine dealing with some of these people like the OP's neighbor.

How about sending him a letter that says if his dog ever steps foot in your property again you'll wear it's skin as a cloak to remind him not to let his animal roam...

LOL@skin as a cloak!

I agree. The kind of behavior he has demonstrated only opens my eyes to the possibility that he may not be saved. BUT I cannot and will not make that or any judgements.\\

Salvation can only be brought by the grace of God. Not by works and not by man but by Jesus only. Romans 10:9-10; Romans 10:13; Romans 3:10;Acts 17:30

I did in fact call my pastor for any suggestions he may have (Biblically) He told me to shoot the dog to protect my flock.
Anyway the Ins. Co. did call, and they suggested go to small claims court instead of getting a lawyer. I will let hubby make the final decision.

Ya'll are right about my neighbors. They are one in a million. Actually the woman died recently and I miss her. We do have the other kind of neighbor also. We moved on this property when I was 9 years old....I'm now 44. Most of the people looked down on us, but not those. It is strange to go to church and hear a great homily and then see your neighbor that doesn't even want to look at you.
So I pray, smile and wave everytime I see them. If I run into one of them in the supermarket down one of the isles, I pretty much force them to talk to me.
Back in about 98, we left for Hurricane Georges and went to Many, LA and stayed in cabins, so we needed to go to the grocery store to stock up the pantry and refrigerator. There was one of our neighbors in the store.......hundreds of miles from our home. She pretty much never talks to me and there she was in Many talking away about my family and hers and where is this one and that one and who stayed behind. My husband saw this for himself and later talked to me about it with the rest of his family. He was like,"She doesn't even know us when we are home and now she is acting like we love each other so much and are always at each other's house drinking coffee."
After years of sticking myself in their faces from time to time, I can speak with all of them, although I don't really consider any of them close except the ones I mentioned earlier. But if there is one thing I can agree with is about good fences. Because, really the better the fence, the less likely your stuff will get out and his stuff will get in. Therefore, less room for trouble.

Go through small claims. It is a bit scary but once you get all the papers filled out it's not too bad. You have to pay for the filing and I know I had to pay the sherrifs department to serve it. I got it back in the judgement.
You know he might not even show up.

As for asking if your husband has the same job that is his attempt to intimadate you into dropping this issue. Don't do it.
Got a family near us who think they are gods and get their way the same way. My family doesn't scare.
Once this guy finds out you won't back down he might wise up, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that.
