Heck they might even drop him for having "dangerous dogs"

Bad as it is with insurance being a dog owner these days...having proven-destructive dogs on your insurance record can't be good at all.

That was the same exact thing animal control told me. When they told it to me we had no chickens at the time and he suggested we get a few chickens and shoot anything that is a threat. He told me that if I listen closely I will hear the gun shots at the dairy farm.

To the OP, Im sorry for your loss. As a dog owner myself, if my dog had done anything like this I would be out there immediately doing everything I could to help fix the damage caused by my animals including making darn sure that they could not even attempt to do something like that again. He is obviously a good example of a bad pet owner.

So sorry for your losses !!! That's horrific to find !
Don't you just love how "we" are the ones that have the added expense of purchasing electric fence etc to keep our chicks etc safe from the neighbors' wandering dogs ? Too bad they can't build good solid runs and keep them home where they belong ! But that would cost them money.
If I saw him with a camera it would be so far up his you know what he'd need a mega flash attachment to take a pic in broad daylight.
Oh yeah, I too have Guineas...does that mean mine are "trouble makers" ?

FOR SHAME!!!!You're not supposed to own guineas! WHY, They're lible to attract your neighbors' dogs or something! And you peacock owners.....

Why did you have to get such a loud bird. Its all your fault!!! My poor poor dogs are so traumatized...They cant stand it having to stay on their property any longer...

Your birds are taunting them to go over there and kill them. Why would I stop my poor dogs from doing what comes naturally?

That my friends is the attitude these days. I think they should go back to a cul de sac or gated community where they can be told what color to paint their house and pay association fees for things they could do themselves at a fraction of the cost. thats what they should do.
By the way, I have to wait until Monday to call the insurance company. WAH!

What you must understand is that most of the "ambulance chasers" you see on tv or the soc. sec. lawyers only take cases that are easy to win. They don't want cases that require any effort on they're part. What possilbe motivation do they have to win if you've already paid them $1500. That was why it's been suggested small claims court. If the dog bit you then you'd have a lawyer cuz they know they'd get money. I got bit and by the time the thing got settled the wound had healed and w/ no scar I got zip. Even tho the insurance co. settled for $500. and the lawyer said he'd wave his fee, I still got zip. He never even sent me the money.
You must decide how much everything is worth and then go for that in small claims court. The point is not to get alot of money but to be such a pain in the neck the dog owner will think twice before letting his dogs loose.

I filed in small claims court against a guy who bought beef from us and never paid. I'm in line to garnish his wages if he ever gets another job.

First off. Document, document, document. Pictures are great too. Phone records showing who you called and which day. Cost of your birds what you paid. If you still have it a receipt is wonderful. Include court costs. His letter to you is great. Did you send your first letter certified mail? If not send a second letter by cert. You have to or they don't believe it has been sent.

Pardon the expression, have your ducks in a row.

If you do not want to do all of this a bullet works great too.

There is a type of lien that is a real junkyard dog in cases like this. It accumulates interest and will not allow the person to receive a good credit report, buy a car, etc. I cannot recall what it is called, but once a standard lien is won, I am certain that it can be changed over to this type. Wish I had more, but I just cannot recall it. I know of cases where it was used and in one case the person forfeited his title to a city lot that he foolishly tried to stiff my Dad for clearing. Dad sold the lien to the town attorney who paid him in full and changed the lien over. He said that one day, the city would gain a nice site for a mini-park without spending a penny.

I think I would go with the insurance route before trying anything else. Just make sure you have all your police and animal control reports and your pictures.
Also, you don't need an attorney for small claims court.
