Neighbors dogs in coop. UPDATE! 2nd time. 911/charges/court today

Quote:
Sally (the basset) and Precious (the great dane) are both well known in these parts. Because I have identified my dogs both to neighbors and animal control. Sally had been mistaken for a pregnant basset that had been wandering the neighborhood. Animal control came to my home and I brought Sally out to show it wasn't her who was walking around. BUT they have gotten out in the past. I have long since contained them for fear of getting a citation. (I also did not want any trouble with the neighbors)
As for the guineas, The neighbor only knew I had them because he came over and saw them. He suggested the noise they made attracted his dogs. I have seen their dogs in my yard in the past (told animal control) but was unaware of their killing nature until I caught them with the chicken in their mouth.

I think I will call the Sheriff's office just to make a report and follow up on Animal Control's report.

Kudos to you for keeping your animals confined to your own property ! Its a shame the neighbor does not . There would be a quite a few less posts under this section if everybody took measures to keep their animals , whether furred or feathered , behind a good fence . Nothing is ever fail safe , but IMO we should all do the best we can .

UPDATE****He finally contacted me via cert. letter.

Do you believe he offered less than half of the bill we sent him ON THE CONDITION....that we would sign something to the effect that he and his dogs will never be held responsible for anything that happens on my property again. The nerve.
Time to get a lawyer. SO SAD!!! I'm tired of being nice.

I would have a few choice words for him. Mainly if his dogs ever step foot on the land, dead even if they aren't near the birds. And then a lawyer to deliver the notice.

I would have told him I won't be RESPONSIBLE for SHOOTING his dog if it goes on your property. I have no tolerance for irresponsible animals owners

Sorry for your loss.. I hope the animal control citation for unleashed dogs.. And for the statement it was your fault, Wrong it is his fault for having unleashed dogs.. I think he know he is in the wrong that is why he wants you to sign off on his ground, but do not he does not have any legal standing if his dogs killed your livestock on your property:(

well there is one good thing about that letter and you must keep copies and keep them safe... The letter is admission that they were his dogs! Time to go to court.

How about sending him a letter that says if his dog ever steps foot in your property again you'll wear it's skin as a cloak to remind him not to let his animal roam...
