Your so called "Pit Haters" probably are Pit Haters for GOOD reason!!
Every Pit owner around me KNOWS I'm one. And if their "he-would-never-do-that" comes on my place, it IS dead. period.

PITBULLS Are good target practice... end of story!!!!

A pit bull mauled my little sister when she was about 2 and almost tore her whole face up.. She was in the hospital for 6 months and had to have her Jaw relpaced with a new plastic one and it was wiered shut and had to have over 50 surgerys through out her life she is now 21 and the scars are still visible and still has to have more cosmetic sergerys. This was all caused by a suposedly sweet and gental PIT BULL... Now my sister has to live the rest of her life and has her whole life knowing she will never look totally normal.. I AM A PROUD PIT BULL OWNER AND THEY DO MAKE GREAT TARGETS. ONE DEAD MILLIONS MORE TO GO....

I was bit by one. They are not my favorite either by a long shot. I still have a bad scar on my leg and it happened over 10 years ago. The dog bit through winter overalls, and through blue jeans. I am just glad the dog did not get my then 2 year old that was outside with me. It never barked. It just charged. The dog headed straight toward my son. I picked him up just before the stupid dog bit down on my leg. It was just one bite but the dog shook his bead and it went over 6 inches down my leg. All this happened while holding my poor terrified son. We were both screaming. It let loose only when it saw another dog . I called animal control , which in area at the time was a joke. They did come out, I showed them the huge bit, but they did nothing. Long story short, I had the dog shot. I then had him tested for rabies- which, thankfully, was negative. I did find out later why it attacked. It had just laid a litter of puppies in my barn. It must have been protecting them. However, it died because I needed to protect my son.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your birds. It is ridiculous how apathetic some dog owners can be when it comes to their animals. Whenever a dog owner says that it wasn't their dog in your yard the proper response is "Then you won't have a problem if I shoot trespassing dogs since they aren't yours."

Whenever there is a post regarding an aggressive rooster is met with advice of rooster stew. The reasoning is that people typically don't want to breed aggressive traits into their flocks. The same genetic tendencies go with with dogs as well. They are predators and if there any pitbull breeders out there who try to breed aggressive tenancies out of their dogs I've not heard of them.

It seems as if all pit owners are in denial here. I have 2 heelers that jump at the chance to eat my birds but never at a person. The OP should have left the original title because a little more attention should be given to the situation as the dog is the most dangerous breed in america and she does have a child. Somebody may be able to give her specific advice to this particular breed in handling this situation.
The proof is on this link.

I am not a pitbull owner, but I am a dog owner and in many, many years of owning and meeting 1000s of dogs, I have NEVER met an aggressive pitbull, sorry, but I haven't and I've lived in 15+ states. I have met agpressive/protective Labs, Goldens, Huskies, GSDs, and more than a few ankle biters that thought they were aggressive, but each and every Pit AND Rott that I've met thought it more appropriate to SLOBBER me, than bite me

They're out there, for sure, but it's the stupid, irresponsible LOOK AT BIG BAD ME I GOT A PITBULL owners.

And to the person that said she doesn't know anyone that is trying to breed OUT the aggressiveness, I do.

This is not a pitbull debate.

OP, I know you tried to steer it to a general dog thread, but some would not let it be. My apologies on their behalf.
