It's not the breed, We own a Pit Bull that if ever one has a reason to be vicious then Lucky does. She was chained to the door of a local animal shelter with the chain grown into her neck. She was scared, hurt, abused and because she was a pit was going to be put down. Lucky for Lucky there are people that look beyond the breed "name" and sterotype and give a dog a chance.

This is the top on her neck

And under twice

Shocking photos to be sure of a hurt and scared young dog. She didn't ask for it, she was just a puppy when that chain was put on. People did that to her.

Want to see her now

A vicious evil pit bull that plays with my grand children and even....... protects them.

The same exact thing happened to me about a week ago... The neighbors pit bulls got out and killed my rooster and i called animal control and they said they couldnt do anything. Then the next day they were out again and attacked my horse and really tore her up. I called animal control again and they took them, but after numerous drunken threats from the neighbor he paid a fine and got one back (the one who killed both my uncle's dogs which were in a fenced in yard.(My uncle is also my neighbor) Then yesterday he was over again running around my coop and I shot him and drug him out back. I feel its the perfect situation to take the law into your own hands.

Again and again the theme I see isn't bad breeds, but bad owners. Lets put the blame where it REALLY lies...with bad dog owners.

These dogs are not the ones letting themselves run loose, it's the owner who is at fault. If it were me I would take it out on the owner by suing him, but I admit that I am like a pit bull when it comes to the tenacity of making a point. If my neighbor did this with his dogs he would pay up one way or another. Shooting the dog hardly teaches the owner as good of a lesson as making him part with his money will.

Steve, you're posting a losing battle when referring to pits unfortunately. I've never met one that wasn't a wonderful dog and I have met many. Very glad that you took Lucky in and gave him the love and training he deserved.

That aside, the OP could just have said DOGS killed the chickens, doesn't matter what breed really. So, they are loose dogs and need to be addressed. There are many things you can do when a dog is in your yard and depending on what it is doing is the level you go to.

I've taken in MANY a stray dog here. I have nine dogs myself, but I always try and give the dog the benefit of the doubt. If it's a local dog and it continually gets into my things, then I set traps, if returning the dog to the owner with a sore leg a few times doesn't work and they dog isn't killing anything, then it goes to the pound so the owner can pay a fine. If it still comes around, well I find it a new home because it deserves it.

If a dog is KILLING or attacking, there is a gunshot - first time over the head. Second time, in it. I love dogs, I HATE irresponsible dog owners and to the OP, YES PEOPLE ARE TOO LAZY.

You should have those dogs (pit bulls or otherwise) come ask the stray Blue Heeler that attacked my chickens what happens around here to dogs who come looking for a free lunch.....wait, they can't cuz I shot it and buried it. I am a HUGE dog lover, have three of our own. They were in danger and so was my flock, not to mention my kids. The solution costs about 50 cents a round at Wal-Mart. If I don't know your dog, and its intentions, it hadn't better come in my back yard. The front yard is questionable as well. My house sits 100 yards off the road. Sounds like you are in the country too. If the neighbor comes asking, deny any knowledge. Stuff happens out in the country. Dogs get run over, run away, snakebit.......its very sad, but my dead chicks would be sadder.

Steve

The officers did take pictures but i never did. One of the dogs was latched on to her rump and the other had her ankle and held on the whole time she was jumping and kicking. The dog he got back was ok (until the next day lol) but the other had internal injuries from being kicked so they put it down. Although i am an animal lover these dogs are bred killers and i have no compassion for them.

P.S. Fours2many

Im new at this so im not sure if it is bad to talk about my own problems on someone elses post so Im sorry just in case lol

Yes, you are right, I should have said neighbors "dogs". At the time, I was so distraught, cleaning up feathers and dead chickens, I just didn't think to be politically correct. Dogs would have been enough description. I do not have anything against pit bulls. I have had dogs my entire life, from St Bernard to little shih tzu. They were all great dogs.

My Dh is home. Neighbor denied they were his. He said look, there is no blood on them. Hopefully, it doesn't happen again. I just do not like the idea of ever shooting a dog. I have been shooting guns since I was a little girl. I will if I need to. I just feel it is unfair of my neighbor to make me take action. I am sure it will tramatize my daughters and I, if I had to shoot a dog, any dog. I have never killed an animal...

I have to differ, it's not a losing battle and Lucky is case and point, Once again it's the owners not the dogs and a pit bull attack always makes at least the local news. It would be all over the local news or a public report would be for viewing since the cops came out, can you just list you county? I would be interested to read the report.

It's good for you to be able you ID the owner and I hope you take full advantage of the legal system to go after the dogs owner.
