neighbor's pest (rooster)

Well, you gotta think, she WAS defending HER pet. I was afraid of a lotta stuff when I was seven, but NOBODY messed with any of my babies or I went postal.
Guess that mother instinct kicked in early? I think many people are that way, whether they are children or not, if somethin is attacking something you love, you just react, you dont have time to think or be scared. I am sure thats probably what happened with her.

I don't think there's a whole lot wrong with this. The children are obviously taught a lot more responsibility (under proper supervision I hope) than many parents teach their kids at an early age and the child took the steps that she thought appropriate.

The real bottom line in my opinion is that the roo should not have been able to get off it it's owners property in the first place. Properly contained birds = healthy, happy LIVE birds.

Just saying......

I have a question. What is the difference between a rooster attacking a rooster or a predator attacking a rooster? You guys probobly would have done the same thing at that age. wouldnt you protect your dog, cat or any pet?

Some people think dubbing roosters is cruel. There are 51 different ice cream flavors at BR for a reason.

Good for her for protecting her pet. But not telling the neighbor? I think the neighbor at least had a right to the body.....

I think this just follows the guidelines I have for stray dogs: Shoot, shovel, shut up. It eliminates a lot of unnecessary confrontation this way. The only thing that telling the neighbor would do is create a lot of hard feelings. People who do not control their animals lose the right to know what happened to them in my book. Keep your dogs and roosters home and you won't lose them.

P.S. Way to go for your granddaughter! What a brave little soul!

The SSS rule works best around here most of the time too.....not too many 2nd chances when it comes to our cows and calves....and for sure no 3rd chances.

I'd like to add that if my kids had done that protecting their pet when they were that age I'd have been proud of them!

I'm sure that many people feel as you do until their own pet is the one that slips the leash. The fact remains, the rooster was property of the neighbor even if the manner of it's death was justified.

its this kind of henshut that sent me packing from neighbors close enought to have a fence... and now im deep in the boonies and needed this.. i hve just begun to miss Starbucks.. and running next door for coffee... running to lowes to get a screw... ill take my cave the darkness and the mess instead of dealing with humans..the worse predator on earth.. animals can be dealth with.. humans make up their own rules.. force them on others and can defend themselves in any situation..
i have no side here... just witnessing the inability of anyone to get along ..this society is sick.. what i do on my side of the fence is my business... what comes to my side of te fence is my business. and i wish i would learn keep my very mouth shut...
