Neighbors Rant

this may not make me popular but here goes...

DO NOT take the triplets to your house if you help them you are ENABLING them!..

WALK away... no RUN away.. mind your farm and leave them to theirs. remember about bio security though... by the sounds of it that is not a concern of theirs.

I agree with the above poster.

You say they are NOT being neglected, however I see differently, if the animals are crowded, not being fed the right foods, dying, and being squished by panels, they OBVIOUSLY do not know what thay are doing. I would call Animal Control and at least have them investigate. Leaving those babies to die IS neglect. Maybe the people that come out will see this and educate them on how to take care of them/ and or give them some warnings on cleaning up, and or fines.

Worth a shot.

Sounds like a BAD situation that IS going to get worse. They sound like hoarders and massive breeders (and illegal ones at that)

If you call animal control, they will know you did it since it sounds like there are no ther people who really know whats going on at their place....which means you WILL have issues with them.

Also sounds like they are beggining to run an illegal dog breeding kennel- dogs that could easily end up on your farm and do damage or end up in other bad situations.

Most places do have laws about how many animals can be kept on how much land. Maybe you could look into it and ever so politely share the info?

If you remain involved in any way, I think things are going to go badly for you and the neighbors. They are doing whatever they want and if you get involved in anyway except to enable their behavior, they WILL turn on you, and then you have a whole new problem.

I would NEVER bring their animals to my place...way too much chance for cross-contamination, AND now YOU are implicated in abetting them in their endevors.

I understand you wanting to help the animals, but it sounds like these people have NO regard for animal life and are TOTAL users! WHY should their animals be your responsibility? How will they learn if someone does all the dirty, hard work for them?

Like another poster said- RUN RUN RUN!!! DONT PARTICIPATE!!! This is going downhill fast and you DONT wanna be run over!

They are NOT going to change and I think your common sense tells you its going to get worse- YOU will end up the bad guy one way or another, best to be prepared. Do you think they will move if animal control comes out and gets the critters or sites them? I think they will just pay the fine and continue on. Why shouldnt they if they have the money to pay and money to buy more animals and someone like you to get them out of their own self-inflicted troubles?

Im sorry you have to deal with this and I really do feel for the critters. I hope those people learn...

Good luck

I did take the goats to my house. I couldn't say no.

But I changed all my clothes and washed real good. I change clothes after feeding them, and they haven't came in contact with anything except the pet taxi they are in which will be bleached well. I do practice bio-security. My herd is all tested. I will be careful with them and they will go home and stay there tomorrow. No way would I ever bring an adult goat on my place, but they are babies and staying in the house so I wasn't too worried about contaminating my herd.

Once they go home we will try to stay away from them as much as possible.

If I see any animals looking badly cared for, or unhealthy I will take action. But I feel I can't decide how they raise their animals at this point, since they aren't under harm.

I don't believe my area has many or maybe any rules about animals such as space and things. I live in prim farm area. I'm glad for that too. I like my freedom. But for as many animals as they have they really don't look too crowded. It's amazing. How they do it I have no clue. But I will continue to keep my eyes open.

I may not like what they do, or them being a backyard breeder. But I don't really think it's my place to tell them that either. They could say the same about me having 100 chickens if push came to shove.

As far as dogs... One did show up here once. If that becomes a problem I will have no trouble calling AC on that. I won't take kindly to a neighbors dog chasing my goats or chickens.

Luckily a nice strip of park land keeps a space between our farms. So I don't have to see or touch their mess. I do hear them though.

Oh I forgot to add that they are trying to take good care of them. They don't intentionally do wrong things. They honestly just don't know.

Try as I might you just can't punish stupidity.

Hey!

You're in a tough situation...
Maybe you can print out lots of animal care sheets and give them to them?? Or would that be rude?

Sounds to me like they just rushed everything x20.
Maybe when all their animals start kidding and hatching they will feel SUPER over whelmed and figure it out..

If not maybe offer some advice.

I agree with alot of what the other posters said.
BUT you need to be aware that now the neighbors know you are a "SUCKA" you will be called to help them with ALL their problems.
You are going to need to know when to walk away from their situation.
I am 90% sure if you called a humane society in IL, they will tell that many animals on that small of acreage is illegal.
When they ask you to help, you need to say how busy you are, and ask them HOW can they keep up with so many animals, as if you were jealous...
Then ask them what they might do if they hit a hard spot and ask if they understand the health implications to themselves and their children.
IF you can share a story of how sick you were, your children, or it can affect their money making plans with selling sick/injured animals.
Ask them if they have insurance for their animals, and if they plan on being able to handle dealing with sick animals, money wise...
IF they blow you off, walk away, then call the humane society, or the state vet to let them know the situation...

Hope this helps.
