My older banty rooster has been quiet lately. He's been in the corner, fluffed up, head down, walks slowly, allows hens to push on by, loosing ability to crow and no energy to mate. I noticed his poop is BRIGHT NEON green, whats it mean???? HELP!

Bright green feces usually means they are not taking in enough food. Check his crop and see if he's been eating. If not, I would separate and monitor closely.

Did you separate him, put him up where he can get food and water?

It could be a number of things but we'd need more information. There's a sticky post, 2ND one in this forum, if you can answer those questions for us but here in this thread, it would be really helpful.

In the mean time, put him up by himself with water and food close. Give him a little water and wetted crumbles to see if he's eaten. Feel his weight - is he thin? Check him carefully for lice/mites, especially all under the wings, back of neck. Does his vent appear reddened?

Has he been wormed this year? Do you worm? Has he had access to puddle-water, compost piles, any maggots, decaying vegetation, wetted/soured feed or grain? ANything like that?

Feel his crop - tell us if it feels like he has eaten.

The more details we have about him and the flock, the more accuracy we can provide with helping you.

Also, diarrhea indicates at least that he needs some good bacteria in his gut. You could give him a 1/2 teaspoon of plain yogurt. Or mix a little less and use that in the water that you put some drops of at the side of his beak to get him to drink. (Then make sure to give him fresh clean water close to drink - so he doesn't have to walk, because he WON'T walk to it.)

He really needs to be nourished and hydrated and he's too weak to do it on his own. He won't be motivated. So putting a little honey or karo syrup in the dribbling water or wet mash can help. Or try to give him some boiled (not scrambled) mashed egg yolk.

OK, I am on vacation and I leave for home tomorrow. I will be sure to check his crop. It was a little runny, more like paste. He eats alot from what I can see. He is on the older side, but not old man old. Also I hear about liver failure, I push this away from my mind. I don't seperate, it's mean to seperate family. None of the poops in the link from the first reply matched up, his is NEON green ><

When I think of liver failure, I'm hearing more about yellow poops and yellowed urates (the white part).

With yours, he could just have a bacterial imbalance. It's good that it's more pasty rather than watery or jetting out. It could even be something he ate.

Yogurt will be the best start until we can figure out more stuff.

Also, look for frothiness when you get home. Frothy poop can indicate worms.

It might be nothing. A weird poop here and there is not much to worry about (unless it's bloody).

thanks i will

OK I will check for mites and check for swelling or anything abnormal. You said to feed him yogurt? What kind? Just plain? Or is there a certain type?
