NEON green, What's it mean?

Thanks for all the comments, I just got home and I nearly had a heart attack.. He wasn't moving a whole ton, thin as a stick! his keel sticks out!!! His comb saggs to the side and lost its bright red color and his face is almost white. Although he has no more neon green poop. I fed him some Domestic rat food, it's got different minerals and vitamins in it, different seeds and alfalfa bits. Found some grass and fed him that too. Gave him ice water, a frozen bottle water to cool off by, and he tried to jump to a dog crate 2 feet away....he cant. He fell. Now i notice he doesnt perch to sleep, he sleeps in a nest box of hay on the floor of the coop. Fed him grapes. He ate tons of feed. I think it may be worms though his poop shows no sign. WILL get yogurt. WILL get wormer. VERY hot here, so he pants alot, and he is older, like around 5 years old

OK, we need to get back to basics here.

What he needs is lots and lots of crumbles or pellets. That needs to be 95% of his diet. He's a chicken. Rat food is not appropriate. Grapes and stuff are great for a healthy bird. He's not healthy. He's emaciated and that much emaciation is one step from death, so he really needs his crumbles or pellets. Not to scare you, but this is indeed very serious as you can see and have indicated to us.

He's too weak to perch incidentally. That's why he fell when he jumped. He has no fuel.

For now, please don't give him grains. The reason is that his digestive tract is so stressed that he may not pass them, and you don't want to risk slow crop. He needs food that is just easily dissolved. (Again - crumbles, pellets). If you want to spoil him, he can definitely have boiled (not scrambled) egg yolks. I bet he would LOVE that and it's a very good thing to give a bird to build their blood back up.

Other than that, I'd give vitamins/electrolytes in the water if you can't get the baby vitamins. And the yogurt will definitely help him digest what he is getting now, and help his gut run more smoothly so that hopefully soon enough we'll be rejoicing with you while you tell us about him eating grapes again.

But for now, the basics are what will heal him.

I'd even wait to worm him until he picks up some weight, honestly. Worming can be hard on them.

By the way, the water idea was great. If you DO do the vitamins/electrolytes, try to give him two things of water - one with, one without.

Be sure to keep him very near his food and water since he's kind of weak right now - that way he doesn't use up his fuel trying to go get more fuel.

I'm glad you're home - welcome home. We'll try to get your boy back on track if you'll trust us a little. /wink

Hmm dad forgot the gatorade so I got kind of mad, so I went into the fridge and found some Power Ade, it had vitamins and electolytes in it so I gave him a little. He really liked it! I gave some to the others as well since its almost 100 degrees here *sweat, pant, pant, pant*

No way! That's untrue!!! Yogurt is OK to give them! Mine eat it all the time when they get runny poo. Fixes them right up!
How is he? Doing any better? Poly vit are good as well. In the baby isle. Couple drops in the water. Hope he gets better~

Lol, hes doing soooo much better, he ran to the door when I left and im worried hes addicted to orange power ade LOL, so are the rest. He regained alot more color in his face and i rubbed ice water under his wings, tummy, and face during this 100 degree heat.

I love orange power ade, too - so that makes two of us!

I think tomorrow he will be fine without it. Just make sure he's drinking alot, and eats a lot of his goodies. The color in his face and his running - those things make my heart sing. I'm very glad to hear it. YAY

Please keep us updated, will you? And be sure to keep cool yourself when you're out in the heat.

Yea, lol, told ya Threehorses is pro! I bought yellow gatorade and plain Alta Dena Yogurt after having dinner out, which Ill give him tomorrow. I am really starting to think its worms because his poo is a bit frothy, he eats a TON and i see it in his crop but hes thin as a stick, so worms may be the cause. My dad being a vet has wormer I can give him that worked with a rooster that had growing problems before (worms stunt growth sometimes I found out....weird...)
