Nervous (still) about removing heat lamp

OK, so my plan is to wait a couple of weeks (until my one girl has more feathers) and then start raising the heat lamp and lower the wattage of the bulb. I will add the heater (that looks like a TV!) when I remove the lamp. Sound good?

Seems like it will be difficult to acclimate them to the cold weather. Not really sure how to go about that. Or is that where the MHP (that they don’t use) comes into play?
Ive raised chickens for years and never had a problem with acclimating to Tennessee weather. I just one day decide the heat lamp doesnt help much inside their brooder and I pull it out. But like I said if they are not big enough and feathered out enough in the winter time they will try to huddle up and risk trampling each other to death, thats why I dont hatch out chickens past July. I notice you live in PA, so weather might be a lot worse than here.

Our chicks were delayed. We wanted them earlier but the hatchery didn’t have the breed we wanted. And I was hopeful we’d have a nice Fall. Weather isn’t cooperating. Heat will remain until my girl is feathered and they’re fatter.

Ive had them trampled before and its a sad feeling that I wish on no one! Im sure you'll be able to tell when they are large enough, but its always better to let to go later than sooner
