Nest box idea

Thank You, rooster-red!

Hole-in-the-head disease is nasty. We've been very fortunate and haven't had to deal with it...so far!

Well, we didn't get the "nest box" done tonight since DH had to work late but I don't need it just yet, so it's no big deal. The gals just turned 19 weeks old today, just wanting to be prepared!

I think it's a fantastic idea! I would put a strip of wood along the top of the front edge, to make it more foot friendly. Even a piece of old hose or large aquarium tubing, that's slit the long way and slipped over the edge would work great. You could secure that with a bit of silicone, too.

Thanks, Woodland Woman!

I was actually thinking about this very thing last night. We replaced one of our soaker hoses this year, I still have 25+ feet of it left. It is something that the flock is used to also. When I expanded their indoor brooder, I used some split soaker hose to protect them from the cut wire in the doorway.

You're welcome! I'm always using things for some purpose other than what they were originally created for.

It sounds like you're going to be all set. I think they'll be really nice.

I've had several projects going on this week and we got back to working on the boxes on Friday.

DH used the jig saw to cut the plexiglass sections apart. We were going to have 2 boxes, side by side, but I didn't take the right measurement (and I know to measure twice, cut once...doh!). DH just cut out the middle section of the tanks and it worked like a charm!

He also used the jig saw to round the corners...before and after.

Hey you have your first egg I see, Wait a minute it says spalding on the side of it, if you can fool me you can fool a chicken. Good job looks nice.

Thanks, hon!

The girls like them too...found 1 Mottled Cochin egg in each box this afternoon.

I'll put their old nest box/stackable container in the Silky coop. I have a cardboard box in there for now and StaPuff stares at it several times a day, like "What am I supposed to do with this thing...where's the cool ones we watched you workin' on!?".
