Nest box size question.

I bought a prefab chicken coop. It is 5 feet long but has six nest boxes in it only giving each nest box a little less than 9 inches width. Is this to small for my dual purpous sized chickens? So far the RIRs fit ok (tight) but my BRs are a bit bigger. This morning the two RIRs were trying to share the one box they all prefer to lay in so far. They were squashed yet both laid thier egg and then left. My question is would it be ok to take down one of the walls and leave their favorite box 20 inches wide or would this make them abandon this box and move to a smaller one?

Try it and see. Some of mine like a bigger, more open nest box and some want to cram into the smallest space possible.

Ahhh...I feel claustrophobic just reading that measurement!! If those dividers are removable, I'd take ONE out, so the bigger girls have a choice between a bigger, more open nest box or a tight one.
