Nesting box design feedback

We built these nesting boxes and hope they suit our girls! I’ve added shavings with golf balls and a bit of dried lavender (I know... but I couldn’t resist). My question is - the opening seems a bit narrow. Will chickens just squeeze in? Or do they need a huge entry?

In my experience, they usually like a smaller opening because it makes them feel like their nest is secret.

Agreed, they look great and I like lavender in mine, too.

The opening should be fine they do like smaller spaces also love your nesting boxes your hens will love them

As long as they can stand up as the egg comes out, it's good! You'd be amazed at the spaces some hens choose for hidden nests....I think they'll like yours.

If they really do have issue squeezing in, you can probably remove that first roof slat and that should open up plenty of space to get in.
