I like the ideal where you put the metal sheeting on top, the hens just slide right off if they fly up there. Great idea.

My first attempt to post a pix here, if it works these are the bins I'm using for nest boxes. I had to do something because well meaning DH built the "nest boxes" for the coop. But built them out of lattice and made them BIG -- more like shelves really. Too open and too roomy.

So I put the bins in and presto - the girls were happy! And I didn't have to ask DH to change what he built - priceless!

is 12" wide to narrow for leghorns? I can make them taller and probably deeper, but I'm hoping to fit 3 wide in my 8x3 coop.

Litter boxes gotten at Tractor Supply for 6 bucks. The hens jump right
in them. Got the idea right here on BYC although I forgot where.
They work great.
