Nesting boxes

I don't mind Walmart either! Thought it was a great comparison about the number of checkouts open. Just like the hens with their nesting boxes....

Yes, the comparison was hilarious! Now that I think about it, a lot of people at walmart remind me of chickens. Lots of clucking but not getting much accomplished!

Finished boxes and Dotty wasted no time getting familure. The bucket nest boxes were to small.

I have open height on top. Dividers on three boxes for 4 hens. They are twelve inches wide. In general a 12 x 12 nesting box should be big enough or open on top so do not have to bend head down to enter or sit no matter the breed. I got some curtains this weekend to block drafts for winter but not yet up. Grey/White plaid.

View attachment 1575141 had five gallon bucket nest boxes and built these after finding eggs everywhere but the nests. I put golf balls inside along with curtains for privacy. I'll send the finished product when we're done

Those look great......maybe add a 4-6" lip in front to keep bedding and eggs(fake or real) from being kicked out....then just give them time to get used to the 'new thing'.

I built a new coop, my girls wont use the new nesting boxes, is this normal or is this gonna become a larger problem?

I used the porcelain eggs. Worked great for me. Good luck & best wishes.
