Hey guys, i have four chicks that will be out of the brooder in 2-3 weeks, coop and run almost finished. I made the mistake of buying a coop from an Agway going out of business. It was a very good price but i did not raise that this one does not include nesting boxes. I believe i ca build them. Just not sure if two will suffice. Thought oi needed 1 per bird but that does not even to be the case. Any thought or plans would be helpful.

Thank you,

Leo

I'm no expert but I can say that I've normally heard that you should have one nesting box per 4-5 chickens. I think two would be perfect for your four chickens!

This is definitely not my comfort zone, but I heard chickens usually use the same nesting box. Not to say that there isn't a stray, but I think you'll be fine with only 4 chicks. Good Luck!:thumbsup

We have 4 boxes for 11 hens and they lay in just 2 of the nest. I was given a chick with a broken neck, which I was surprised when she laid her first egg. Since she doesn't fly to the the nest boxes I made her a little area in a pet carrier to lay her eggs now most of the hens are laying in the carrier with an occasional hen laying in one of the boxes.
