Nesting for Ducks

I have 13 chickens, 1 rooster, and 8 ducks (5 female, 3 male). What do the females like to nest in? My chickens are happy with alfalfa or timothy hay. They all live together and seem very happy. The ducks are a little unhappy with their frozen ponds. Is it ok if they don't have anywhere to swim in the winter? We're working on it, but hauling many buckets of water from the house to their yard is a pain.

I just use swim pans - concrete mixing pans year 'round.

For nesting, I just give them fresh shavings and they make their own.

They like little corners, though, so I have attached a couple of plywood squares (about 2 by 2') to make a couple more corners in the shelter.

Welcome to the Duck Forum!

Thank you. That is very helpful. I do have some nice corners for them, but will get some more shavings for them in those areas.
