Netti Pot Users?

Definitely boil the water before using it in a netti pot. It takes some practice to learn how to close off your throat so that the water goes in one nostril and out the other.

I am going to give you more information than you are asking for only because it could be helpful in keeping your sinus infections from coming back.

I used to get sinus infections at least twice a year and it sucked. It would wipe me out especially after I would be put on antibiotics, they would wreck havoc elsewhere. Additionally, I found out I am allergic to the top two antibiotics used for sinus infections by breaking out with hives all over my body, not fun. I finally got to a point where I figured I need to find out what was going on with my sinuses and figure out some way keep from getting them. First I went to an Allergist who tested me for allergies and found out I had no allergies, I had what is called Nonallergic Rhinitus. My sinus inflammation is caused by dust, certain smells, season changes, dry air, etc. Following a CT scan, I met with a nasal surgeon who told me I had narrowed sinus passages and that surgery would make it worse, so, I did a ton of research and the last two years I have been sinus infection free. I do use a netti pot of sorts, I used the neil bottle with the drugstore brand saline packets and it works great. I usually use tap water but after hearing the brain amoeba, I plan on using boiled water or distilled.I don't even have to use it all the time, only when I feel something coming on which I have come to recognize the symptoms (pain and general "ookiness" feeling in my right cheek, close to my nose. It is great to use this when you have been outside all day working in the yard or cleaning dusty areas of the house as it rinses all the pollens and dusts out of your nose as well as any dried nose secretions. I also use the store brand "Sudafed" (Pseudoephedrine, not the Phenylephedrine as it doesn't work well at all) which is a OTC but you need to ask the pharmacist for and sign for it. I also use Target brand spray decongestant, I use it only as needed and have never had any issues with it and I have found it works better than the Sudafed at times.. The doctor has also prescribed, inexpensive nasal spray that I use only as needed. They say you should use it all the time, but I don't. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

I sometimes use one, but my husband uses one all the time as he has really bad sinus problems (several of his family members had surgery done on their sinuses...definitely runs in the family), that are constant and very painful. He knows all too well about the water quality of Louisiana, but the amoeba still really freaked him out even though he doesn't live there anymore. He uses distilled water now. Can't say I blame him!

He gets about 2-3 hours of relief after using it. It is a lot more effective for my minor sinus issues and occasional infections, helps them clear up and keeps me almost entirely pressure and pain free.

It's probably a good idea to know what is swimming around in your water. In the area that I live in, the water is considered quite safe and I just use tap water with salt and baking soda.

You roll the dice every time. :( Distilled water is cheap. We'd miss you :(

After a childhood spent playing sports and generally being not-nice, to my body, face, skin, etc., while being nice and fit, my nose has taken a beating. Nicely deviated septum that I have no interest in "getting fixed". It's no Dumbledore-nose, but it's not straight, on the inside and has a touch of character, on the outside.

I am considering a neti-pot, whenever I get a cold, which I am just getting over, now. Nyquil, however, is the best thing ever! I miss my cold, when it's gone, because I sleep so well on that. :) growing up, I had sinus infections so often it scarred the bottoms of my sinuses. The scarring was bad enough to be visible on x-rays. I almost always had a cold. I've found that not sniffling is a great way to keep a cold from getting into your chest. It also reduces how swollen your sinuses get, by a TON.

Neti-pot. Sounds good.

I have never used the neti pot,

my kids get lots of colds, they are in school after all and my hubby suffers from sinusitis terribly. So I buy the salt water saline bottles from the drug store, it helps a great deal with my hubby and for the kids use it to clear out their nose and then give them homeopathic cold and flu medication made from honey and other herbs. they used to get all sorts of antibiotics before. since getting the sprays and the natural remedy medication they have no had to have any prescriptions the issues remedy themselves rather fast. before my DD would be off school for a week, now a day or two at her worst.

It's the bending over, that gets you. Tying your shoes. Picking up dropped items...

I hear with neti pots, the first time you use it is unbelievable. Sooo much gunk comes out. Youtube is letting me down here.
