Neurodivergent chicken keepers

I'm not about to pay for a diagnosis for the ADHD, Autism and other things I think I have because I'm not spending that much money on it. From the Dr. that did the diagnostic for my bipolar she thinks I do have those things. Most likely High-functioning and Masking. All the online tests show me skewed in that direction.

So glad this thread is up and running again. I have been on it briefly before. I am so glad there are many chicken people like me. I often get called out on my chicken interest subtly as if it's something I cannot make into a career, just a hobby thing, and that I "should find more hobbies rather than just chickens"...That really hurt me. 😖 Especially coming from a family member while I was facetiming them and showing them my incubator set-up.
People who aren't chicken people just don't understand. That's why BYC if my refuge. I am so thankful for this site and wish more people knew about it.
I am diagnosed Autistic. Me personally, I dislike that word. IMO you shouldn't be defined by one word.
There is so much hate nowadays with autistic folks as I have noticed myself...making fun of us on social media, and friends making nasty comments about folks with ASD. I really hope that after I come out on here, that I do not get made fun of or defined as my diagnosis but rather, who I am as a person.
I hope one day once I gain more and more knowledge, other neurodivergent folks can look up to me and be like, "wow, she did it, she really made a career out of what she loved after people told her she couldn't." 🥲 At least that is my dream goal. Thanks for reading

There are plenty of ways to make money that tie into chickens. Having the chickens themselves not so much. 🥰

It's pretty important to use the words that your comfortable with.
I'm happy to use autistic for myself cause I don't see it as a negative or anything.
Hope you enjoy being on the thread! :love
Yeah definitely not LMAO, but I want to be a breeder someday of popular and rarer breeds. Hatchery I went to last month said one day he got $6,000 in sales.🤯
I have a bit of an interest in rarer breeds/varieties too, what are some of your favourites?

Been a minute since I posted here but I realized I never did an actual intro
I struggled with pretty bad waves of depression and anxiety for about 3 years but recently in the last few months I've been doing much better although I still have my moments sometimes. I also struggle with regulating my emotions, sensory issues, hyper fixation, rejection sensitivity, and many different neurodivergent symptoms but as of now I have no diagnosis. I've tried self diagnosis but there is so much symptom overlap it's hard to narrow it down. Mental health has always been a complicated struggle for me but I've been very focused of personal growth and awareness as well as accepting myself and accommodating myself and my needs.

I'm sorry I should have said that that's just me personally that I don't like that word, I don't want to make people feel like they shouldn't use it☹️ I think it's really cool that you're autistic too. And that you live in Australia? So cool!! That's my dream place to go because of the crazy wildlife! Have you heard of Bridey Drake before? I love her YT channel and her personality😆 (Kinda random ik...)
I absolutely love game breeds, owlbeards, Malines, lakenvelders, and vorwerks. How about you?

Oh don't feel bad! Like I said, use the terms you're comfortable with for sure!

Yes, I have, she's sort of everywhere 😂 We definitely have fun wildlife!

Oh, game breeds definitely seem fun! I like vorwerks too! I bought eggs once but I had a really bad hatch and none of them hatched 🫠
Rare breed wise I like La Flèche. Though technically most of my birds right now are counted as a rare breed or variety here. For now I'm wanting to focus on rare Sussex varieties, showgirl silkies and experimenting with silkie colour genetics.
