I've had a young hen, not yet laying, in the house for more than a week now. I found her being pecked bloody on her rear and back by the other chickens. Brought her in, cleaned her up, treated with Blu-Kote, antibiotics, vit & min.
When I first brought her in, she was breathing loudly with a lot of congestion, so that is why I gave her the antibiotics originally. The congestion seems to have gone, but she is still having difficulties.
I noticed yesterday that when she attempts to eat, it is like she can't see what she is doing, or her depth perception is off. She pecks in the general direction of the food, but either ends the peck too soon, so doesn't reach the food, or she pecks off to the side. She does get some food, just by chance. The same thing with the water. I have started dipping her beak in the water several times a day so she can drink, since it is harder for her to find it.
Over all, she acts sick. Standing most of the day with her head tucked under her wing. I have wormed her, with no obvious results. What else can I try?
Advice anyone??
Thanks,
Sarah
