Nevadans?

On seeds, I've got tomatos, hot peppers, bell peppers, and all my herbs started as of last week. All my big seeds are going out next monday hopefully, like the corn, squash, melons, beans, and peas. How should I start broccoli inside? Should I use a flat, or like a pot? You guys better watch out, I will sooo shamelessly use your amazing knowledge when I start my own serious garden at my own house. Right now its just a hobby. :]
Missy, I'd love to see the chicks, but I cant. My beautiful ancient car hasnt ran in weeks, and I hate having my mom take me places. We'll have to do just one trip for the time being, and have dinner or somthing so we can meet proper. :/
Sheryl!! How are the duckies doing?? I cant wait to see pics.

Oh and Aubrey!! I totally vote yes on the shamo!! Thats yoshi is, and she's just the coolest chicken ever. I will absolutely be your enabler for this.

Hi everyone! And
welcome-byc.gif
& the Nevada thread to the 2 new ones.

Well, it looks like we are only going to have the 2 ducklings. 1 female named Harmony and John said the little boy is Mohawk, Mo for short right now. I'm trying not to get attached to him since he can't stay with me. Thank you Sunny, Steve & Missy for coming by and all. I really enjoyed having you over here.

My older son Kevin and his family flew in and they have my computer room for their bedroom and they are trying to adjust with the time difference and my little 9 month old granddaughter is having the most issues with it which in turns makes her mommy stay up late or get up early. So I can't get in here very often but boy was my fingers twitching just waiting to get on here and tell everyone about these little guys. I have the video of Harmony hatching and will be posting it along with the pictures.

Both the chickens and the ducks are in the same brooder. Sunny, just like Genny said, we couldn't put Harmony in with the chicks, they wanted to peck her and she was too weak. We moved the chicks into my other brooder and we were able to put them all together once Mo hatched out. Harmony named herself, it was so funny, one look and she was Harmony. It was Harmony who worked with the other chicks right away and they've been best friends ever since. I said last night I guess that is why she named herself Harmony.

Now for some scary news. Yesterday morning when my son Kevin and I went out to collect the eggs he immediately said what was on your coop's roof. He looked right at the prints and said Mom you have raccoons. I had to go get my glasses and sure enough we did. I have since figured out the raccoon most likely has been coming around now for about 4 weeks. There was one area on top of the coop we did not have wire on it and it looks like it was able to reach in but not be able to get to the chickens. John and Kevin boarded it up for now and we will get the hardware cloth on it. I stayed up last night waiting for them Oh my gosh, it was only 1 but it was as wide and tall as my dog. It was so huge. It saw me and left right away. Everyone was and is safe and I thanked John so much for being able to pass the raccoon test on the coop. My biggest nightmare isn't one anymore. My Fort Knox and now Super Fort Knox.

Okay, I must go now. My son is sleeping in here with me and I don't want to wake him up.

Um... you're not planting corn, squash, melons, and beans right now, are you?

LOL  and awesome pics, Lacey!

Wow you folks have been busy! Love the pics Lacey! You take the best photos! Looking forward to that video Sheryl but I understand your family time comes first. We enjoyed being able to see Harmony during our visit.

Daniel you have been sooo busy! You all never slow down over there do you? Your son looks sooo much like you!!! I thought your daughter looked like your spitting image but that pic really shows how much your son looks like you!

Ground is still frozen up here so I won't be putting in peas or corn yet. I don't blame you on the corn Elizabeth. Corn is one of those plants that likes to grow in big groupings and most backyards are just not big enough for it. It's probably silly to grow so much when it's just Steve and I but I figure I have 30 days a year to sell extras at a stand out front. I love all this gardening talk. I wish we didn't have such a short season here. And moving to Red Rock shortened our season even more by a few weeks! Hope Steve's back holds up! I need him to handle the heavy stuff. He loves to help though so that's good!

Hey Ron how's that back doing? Mine is giving me heck lately! Hoping it's just the weather and not time to go back in to treat the other weak areas. Not that I'm hoping other folks hurt but if they do it may just be weather related then I know it will ease up soon. :/

It's been paining me. I tried to get some work done on my garden but the weather was just too nasty. I'm hoping it's better this weekend 'cause I really need to get going on it - the clock is ticking! I did manage to get on my tractor for a little bit, but only to let my nephew's 4-year-old drive it.
