Too bad it's an all black, although she's probably from my black girl Cher. She's really well put together and has a very comical personality! OK, sending WC vibes for the rest or Splash, love the Splash too...oh, and WC Blue or any blue, those are cool too.

Do you think they're going to get here around then? Maybe we can do Easter baskets a week late, if we're going to have ducklings around that time.

Sunny, keep us updated!!!
woot.gif

yep, The hatch date is April 11--could be earlier but that's the date given and last time it took 2 days to arrive.

Hahaha! I'm up. Just finished chores. Well, chores are never finished but the animals are taken care of anyway.

We have 1 little black Polish out (he woke me up this morning with his loud peeping so I'm assuming boy) and 4 more eggs pipped!!! 2 of those are Polish as well. The frst little one is running around and cheeping at all the other eggs to hurry up, so now I just need to sit on my hands so I don't stick my mitts in there and mess up the humidity at this crucial time.

OH! I just heard more peeping! Sounds like another has at least broken the membrane!!! Gotta go!

yay! what an exciting day!

Based on this article:

and my reading of the city code that it mentions here:

http://cityofsparks.us/municode/Title_20/29/040

that I am indeed out of luck - that most of Sparks it is illegal to have chickens, except maybe as a "pet" but then they must be kept inside - and that's not really doable for me.

Next step: writing my city council person and the mayor to get this revised.

What a shame...

I think there are others in Sparks ont he same page as you--trying to get the laws revised. I don't know who they are but that's what I heard from my friend. Definitely write to them. They should get with the BYC revolution!

I just read the article and one of the council members mentioned them being allowed in las vegas. welll, Las Vegas really is not very friendly for chickens based on the laws we saw recently when we were looking at Reno law, so Sparks should not follow them. The las vegas regulations talk about having chickens 300 feet from any property line and getting permission from neighbors. that would be a very big lot. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to keep trying to get things changed.

Sunny, are the brown eggs that have pipped, the regular dark brown or the lighter brown/pink from my EE's?
OK, let's just know I'm going to be a PEST! I got nothin' better to do and I'm eggsited! I apologize to everyone right up front!

Keep the thread going! I love logging on here and seeing updates, and often I feel guilty if I'm doing too much talking. Nice to see others talking! Today I'm just working on clients and painting the coop... but I ran out of spraypaint, so I'm restraining myself from running out and buying more, with a client due in just over an hour. The weather is so nice, though! Oh well... I guess it'll be decent enough tomorrow, too.

Ah that stinks! You wouldn't be the first person to change their city's laws though! There's even an area here on BYC that explains the steps you need to take to do it! Not sure where it's at but if you do a search you should come up with a bunch of info!

LOL I understand completely! The one dark brown egg is out and it is a little yellow chick... I take that back it is one huge yellow chick!!! Another Polish is out and it is yellow, another one is zipped and it will be out in a short while. Can't find the other brown egg that was pipped but the other chickies are climbing on them right now. The brown eggs and the Polish are in together. They are easy enough to tell apart so I didn't separate them.

More Polish have pipped. These guys are definitely the "hurry up and get out" types. The bator is sounding very alive right now with all the chicks that are out and zipped/pipped. hahaha I'm lovin it!

I agree...the more posts the better. It keeps my day flowing by with little breaks for BYC. I'm sure many other people (not on here, of course,

) would be thinking "get a life!" oh well, I enjoy the chicken talk, garden talk etc.

Can't wait until you can take some photos of those little fluffy butts, Sunny!

So much fun!!! So the yellow one should be a Splash I guess. With 3 WCB Polish roos in there, I can't imagine the one Black roo's getting all the action! Come on WC'ed anything!

Hmm, yellow chick, possible moms are red sexlink, rhode island red or barred rock???? All covered by my Silver roo.

Just an FYI for everyone on the colors that the Polish eggs came from and maybe someone can help with what colors they'll be. So, in hens, I have a black, a white splash, and 2 silver laced. In roo's I have 3 White Crested Blacks and one all Black.
