Nevadans?

OK the house is slowly warming up. I should be able to get pics soon. I haven't even checked their cheeks yet. lol I'll do that as soon as I finish with my chores.

Sorry to turn the topic away from cute little chickies but I have a favor to ask. Does anyone here in Reno have a truck we can use to move a King-sized bed this weekend? I have called all the rental places in town that I can think of and they are either booked or they don't have trucks that small. I would rent a trailer but we only have the cars running right now and no hitch to attach a trailer to. We will pay gas plus reasonable rental fees if someone can help us out here.
Thanks!

My Yukon has that square type hitch, not a ball hitch, if that helps. A pickup would be perfect, though. if anyone has one.

Thanks Missy but I'm pretty sure most trailers have the standard round fittings.

Thanks Pam. If you could let me know pretty soon that would be great cause Steve is asking around at work too. Trying to get this sewed up pretty soon.

LOL on the nose prints!

I've never tried raspberries but I planted some blueberries last year. They grow in places like Maine so I figured they would work here. Got 'em at Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City. If you've never been it's worth the trip - it's 5 acres in size and they have absolutely everything that can possibly grow around here, plus a lot of longtime employees that really know their stuff! I have had great success with corn Seth - the secret is to plant a large amount and plant them close together - 6" spacing seems to work fine. They won't pollinate properly otherwise. Oh, and another good trick: After the silks pop out, take some corn oil and an eye dropper and put a drop in the center of the silks at the base. This keeps moth larvae from crawling down into the ear and eating your corn. Nothing more unappetizing than peeling back the leaves from your corn and seeing a big worm munching away on it!

ETA: Missy are you sure your Yukon doesn't have a square hitch receiver, which would allow putting a ball hitch into it? I've never heard of a square hitch before...

Sunny, from and where is the route so I can give them an idea of how long it would take and if they have the time.

Ooh, that's a good trick! Got anything for earwigs? I plan to let my chickens run around the corn a bit, but that won't do anything for the bugs that are already in the corn silk.

I got a blueberry bush a few days ago, and plan to put it in a planter outside my office door. Don't know if I'll get many berries without a second bush, but it'll be pretty.

Go figure... all my clients today were in the morning, and the wind is too nasty to get much outdoor work done. I should be grateful, though... that means it's spring, right? 7 eggs today... new record!

Sorry, crossed posts with you Missy! Did you read what I added up there? My neighbor told me something about the earwigs - she said to sprinkle something around the base since they only climb up but I can't remember what it is now. And unfortunately I don't live by her anymore. It seems like it was something very common around the house though. I'll see if I can't find something online.

What I've found best for pest control on all my veggies is to not let any foliage touch the ground and use a good couple of inches of mulch. I haven't had those big fat worms since!

Here's our garden last spring after a late season snow. We'd planted about two weeks before this. Luckily we didn't lose anything.

Here's peeking in my garden gate towards the raised bed with the tomatoes getting some height on them. We put high wire cages on them and encourage them to grow tall. They get about 6 feet tall.
