Nevadans?

Sorry I couldn't load all the pics at once. Not sure why so I shut down and came back on. Then I was able to get stuff to finish loading. You'll have to go back to see the finished post.

Thanks.

Sunny, that looks sturdy! I'm jealous as I let my seedlings sit under plant lights for the next couple days while the weather is icky. You know, by the time the wind is tame enough to build my greenhouse, I might not need it so much.

You know the weather won't get nice that quickly! You'll use your greenhouse for sure! I'm hoping the potatoes do really well in one of these. I will put some leeks, cantaloupe and pumpkins into this one and put the potatoes in the next one we build. I need to score another set of shower doors first though.

jsut got some potatoes when can i plant i got gold red and white varietys

Seth if you buy a few of those wall o' waters you could try planting the potatoes in April. All potatoes go in at the same time of year but the smaller varieties will mature first. After cutting the potatoes into sections (make sure each section has at least one eye) let them dry on newspapers for at least a couple of days before planting. Don't use supermarket potatoes. They are treated with chemicals that inhibit their ability to sprout.

Well, I just lost one of my chickens, Wynonna. I think her heart gave out but not really sure. I was holding her when she went. This is my first loss. She hatched March 23rd and I picked her up from Green's Feed 1 year ago today. She was a great chicken.

Oh, how sad, I'm very sorry Sheryl!

It's tough to lose one.

Sunny the cold frame out of bales is interesting. You said you are covering them use by the animals - does that mean that you wouldn't cover them otherwise?

Re: potatoes. I was talking to a friend at church today and she said that her daughter had been on the UNCE website which tells you when to plant what in specific areas around here. I asked her what it said for Dayton right now and she said potatoes, onions, cabbage, peas and beets! I haven't checked it out myself yet so I'm a little skecptical if it's actually time to plant things like that outside and unprotected...

Ok, the little peeps are out in the coop tonight. I finished and installed the divider and got them moved in just before dark. they have their heat still of course. I'll have to go check on them before I go to bed but they seemed fine when I was out there earlier. I put another layer of plastic over the window from the outside since I didn't have time to work on the window yet. I'll post some photos in a little bit.

Your cold frame is looking good, Sunny!

I'm so sorry, sheryl. It's hard to lose our animals.

Sunny, that looks great! Wish I could get hay that looks that good here! You mentioned you wanted to reuse the hay when you're done, then I recommend you poke some holes on the outer edges of the plastic. That hay will mold really quickly wrapped in plastic.

That soil looks so rich! Even the first layer looked delicious! I thought your soil would look lighter and more sandy. Can't wait to see what grows.

On the potatoes....I've only used potatoes from the grocery store and they grow like crazy. I even had one sprout from a potato I had cut up for french fries and didn't use! I plant russet and red and we have them going year around. Plant them anywhere there's a spot in the yard.

Sheryl, sorry about your chicken. So glad she was in your arms.

Elizabeth, sounds like the chicks are ready for their big girl home.

Seth, I think it's still early to know how many roos you've got.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Have you tried posting pictures on the "What Breed or Gender is this?" forum. Very helpful over there. And if you do, let us know, I'd love to see. It's also a good forum to get your eye trained.
