Nevadans?

Oh Missy, the Purple Viking potatoes came in yesterday. I know you wanted a couple pieces of those. Do you still want them?

Ooh yes, yes! In fact, today I was just looking at our other potato order, and Googling pictures of Purple Viking. I'm itching to plant some potatoes now, and almost bought some Yukon Golds at Walmart, but I have some of those on order as well... maybe I can get away with a few in a bucket, until it gets a little warmer.

We demand coop pics!!!

I hope to get mine done soon, but the forecast says rain for the next week. Just need to stain the wood, put up the trim, and make the door look like an old barn door. I guess I shouldn't complain about rain, though... I'll have peas planted in 3 gardens by Monday, and that's a lot of attention to watering.

Seth, you really should like all veggies. It makes you strong enough to handle any mean rooster you get.

Oh my gosh, today I did nothing today and I do mean nothing! Okay, I do have sour dough bread going but that isn't really doing anything. I even took a 2 hour nap today. I think I'm a bit tired from the last week.

Got my egg collecting going again. I think the humidity issue was the plastic tray I placed the eggs in. I don't think it allowed the water from the wells really go into the incubator, instead the water stayed collected underneath.

Thanks Ron for showing the duck pictures. To bad Harmony no longer looks like that. Her lower bill is longer than the her upper now. I'm not sure what we can do for her. But she is the most happiest duckling I've ever seen in my life. She has a great spirit in her. I will never forget how she was when I introduced her to the chickens once Mo was hatched. Mo just got dried off and I put them both in the brooder under the heat lamp. Mo couldn't walk yet. I wrapped a towel in a circle to keep them in the middle while the chickens were able to run around. But Amanda and Lacey jumped up on the towel right away. It look liked they were going to peck Harmony but Harmony lifted Mo up and placed his head on top of the towel to show him the chickens. Right away Amanda and Lacey stopped and looked at him as if they were saying, who is this. That's all it took.

LOL I didn't like it at your age either. Now I love it! But then again I had never had it cooked right before that. Asparagus needs a light tough or it gets mushy and tastes disgusting. Have your Mom make it with a touch of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and some orange zest. Toss then cook in the microwave for just a few minutes (not quite fork tender but you can pierce it with a fork). Squeeze one-half of orange onto asparagus. Sometimes I add Prosciutto. Depends on what I have available. Then sprinkle a little fresh parmesan on top and place under broiler just until parmesan starts to melt.

Congrats on the coop!

Cool. I'll save you some too then.

Sheryl fresh sourdough bread sounds delicious! Glad you had a great visit with the kids.

OK Sunny we can trade for the cantaloupe and some peas and maybe some leeks, too. Unfortunately spinach is also on my cannot eat list, along with broccoli. My three favorite greens and I can't have them!

Ah well... I already have the corn and also the Purple Viking potatoes - I thought those looked really cool and they said they were an early variety, too. I also ordered another potato - Gold Rush I think it was (they haven't arrived yet). Is the growing season here long enough for leeks?

The nice weather has the girls really producing! I got 46 eggs in my last batch (= 2 days worth). I need to find some more customers...

I hate when you can't eat stuff you love. I sorta like mushrooms but they do not like me, I get really sick when I eat them.

Congrats on the eggs Ron. I'm getting about 7 a day from my 8 hens. I've never ever seen 8 eggs in one single day though. I'm waiting for the day.

Well, I'm keeping my back light on every night now and no racoons anymore. I guess they just don't like the light or I really scared them. Who knows as long as they don't come back. My DIL loves them, she rescued several of them in Florida. I explained how mean they are and such but my DS told me not to kill them while she's here or talk about killing them. She asked if they've come back since and I told her they haven't but if they do I will kill them. I'm keeping the ground wet as long as it's not freezing and checking for footprints and there hasn't been any.

Sunny, sounds like you had a great time today with your dad. I'm glad he's doing alright.

Heck NO!!! Leeks take 140 days to mature. I've already started mine inside but what the heck, they don't take up a lot of room. May as well try them in a cold frame or something. lol

Bummer about the spinach and the broccoli!!! Those are definitely 2 of my favorites! They go se well with so many things! I would be very bummed too.

Thanks, Sheryl.
